pi2000
Well, that's basically my point. If he's playing Ryan O'Reilly's game, then playing him with Grant isn't "sheltering him". It's just playing him with a boat anchor. If anything, it's making more work for him. I'll bet Grant finishes the game a plus tonight. Randall Flagg
I'll bet Grant finishes the game a plus tonight. If he does, it'd be because O'Reilly did everything by himself. Maybe with some help from Gionta.

Randall Flagg
..and the fact Grant a superior defensive player when compared to Okposo or Kane. What defensive qualities make him better than Kane? Do you value Grant as an NHL player at all? Since he's a PK specialist on the worst PK in the league and has zero goals ever? Edit: Also, his +/- is worse than Okposo's...since apparently a difference of one integer value matters in differentiating between their defensive abilities. 3putt
I'll bet Grant finishes the game a plus tonight. Through no effort ofnhis own. He is an empty jersey. He forces the team to work harder because they are for all intents and purposes short-handed when he is on the ice and down 2 when he is on the pk. And your stat about +/- is bull because it doesn't factor the number of goals he is on for on the pk which is why he was given a spot in the first place. If that were true Vesey would be less sore today. But yea.. other than that.. useless. :)

Grant is superior in his own end. I like Grant's defensive game, his ability to battle for loose pucks in his own end, and he makes smarts plays when he does gain possession. Sure it's not sexy, but an effective cog that makes the team successful. Through no effort ofnhis own. He is an empty jersey. Grant is the grey in an office cubicle, a magazine in a doctors waiting room, closed captions on c-span ... he's a boring, everyday average guy who just does what he does, nothing more, nothing less. Underappreciated by some, despised by most.... all he does is show up everyday and do the job he's asked to do. Is anybody buying any of this yet? darksabre
Sorry for shouting. The anti-DD in every thread gets old. Especially when he's doing the right thing. He's sheltering him by not putting him on the ice all that much. Is this really that hard of a concept? Hard minutes are hard minutes. The quantity really doesn't seem important at all. Either he's recovered or he's not. It's not a conditioning or talent thing.

Last I checked we stink. Overall I find this discussion on Grant absurd... maybe his +/- wouldn't look so great if PK goals counted against it. He's an AHLer getting time on a team that doesn't have a full NHL roster, period. I call that living the dream. Brawndo
The lineup ROR in Gorges on the 3rd pairing with Fedun. Risto and McCabe the 1st pairing Thank You Jeezbus!

Randall Flagg
As much as I hate Gorges, there's no justifying to the locker room that Falk should play over him. Not sure what the stats say. I like him with Fedun.
