Or a 23 year old kid who has never played a game in the league? Poile has no history of jerking around players, far from it. Vesey has no history. They're an upstanding franchise who is know to take very good care of it's players. I find it extremely difficult to believe he's lying about it. They're lack of activity at the deadline also lends to thr idea Vesey was coming on board. If they knew he wasn't gonna sign they would've traded him at the deadlibe for playoff assets. So to save face, his agent came out and made up some story about what they told NSH back before the deadline. Instead of pointing fingers and starting a he said she said issue, Vesey should've just been honest about having a change of heart. I think it's dirty pool, and now talk about second contact and such before he even plays a game is a bad sign of his character and what he values IMO. The duo showed the camaraderie of old pals out there. Subtle stick taps on the ass between whistles, exchanging smiles on the bench, even embracing as they congratulated their goalie for the win; all the stuff you look for in a strong on-ice relationship. Optimistic about our chances. Highlights include: 5:25. JV showing escapability and gaining the zone with balance to lead a 2-on-1 with Jack who finds the trailer. 9:30 another 2-on-1 with Jim and Jack, showboatin a bit. 11:15 JV with a snipe (from Eich) 20:00 JV showing off the handle and Hobey Baker finish 22:05 2-on-1 with Jim and Jack. Jimmy prepared for Jack's common last-second pass. A result from knowing each other's game? 24:28 Jack feeds Jimmy for a breakaway. Tries five-hole but misses his spot. First bolded point: I don't think any well-run NHL franchise would assume that Vesey, with zero NHL experience, was going to be a difference-maker for a playoff run. So they wouldn't have based any deadline decisions on the assumption that Vesey was coming. I also don't think Vesey would've had much value at the deadline -- again, he had no NHL experience and was about to become a UFA. Second bolded point: why would he do this? He's finishing up a strong senior year and knows he's going to be a UFA and in demand. What purpose would it serve to lead on the Preds? I think it's much more likely that the agent told the Preds that Vesey liked them and was leaning towards signing there but wasn't sure and that the Preds should not base any decisions on Vesey being there -- and that, as dudacek says, they heard what they wanted to hear. What if the Nashville thing does bother him?
