All about the Babwatch -- Sabres out

I know what you were trying to get at, but if you're giving me $4.5M, i'm totally taking it. Expected payout is $4.5M vs $1M ($5M * 20%) with the other one. That's a no brainer.

Yeah, there is a very long stream of academic literature on this.  And, overwhelmingly people select the certain payout as you suggest.

Even when the certain payout is considerably less than the gamble payout, instead of 90% of it.

There's no gambling at all in the scenario that was outlined.  You're being handed $4.5 million but then there's a 20% chance that they give you and extra half million.  There was never any chance of losing anything.

Other then Ehrhoff, I think these names prove my point.

And Gorges. Don't care what's happened since he was acquired... He was heavily-pursued and went out of his way to come here versus accepted a trade to Toronto.

He also played well prior to injury.

LTS: I agree with Touched by Boyes. If I have a 100% chance of getting 4.5 million dollars and only a 20 % chance of 5 million, I'm holding up the 4.5 million sign. Not even a question. I was just commenting on another post that claimed that Murray shouldn't be criticized for getting Eichel (and I wasn't criticizing him for that at all) It really did seem at the post lottery presser that he was truly disappointed with not getting the first pick. Hence that infamous quote of his which SportsCentre enjoyed replaying.

Even if you are disappointed, I felt Murray shouldn't have said what he did because as everyone here agrees, Jack Eichel is a very good player and we are getting him. This caused me to seriously question TM as our new messiah. He did a lot to redeem himself in my eyes with the coaching search presser post Mike Babcock.

SportsCentre then brought up the question, "How do you feel if you are Eichel and his camp?" What if you now decide to go back to Boston College for another year? They never answered their question and that worried me because I didn't understand the NCAA rules regarding drafting their players (which was later pointed out to me by another poster and I am grateful for that)

I got scared we were going to lose both Eichel and McDavid (and now with the loss of Babcock) I just felt all this insanity the past 2 seasons was going to be for absolutely nothing! I am glad we have Jack and I want nothing but success for him here (which would translate into success for this club and us fans. Anyhow, as I stated, if Murray can turn this around, I am ready to worship at his altar.

If you wanted to see disappointment, did you see McDavid's face when the Edmonton sign went up? He could barely mask it. Poor kid. He really, truly wanted to come here. Many of  my friends mentioned the same thing. In Jack we shall now trust!

Other than maybe Meszaros, all those players had other options and chose to come here.

Did anyone catch Babcock's farewell Detroit presser? Good stuff. Shows the character of the man.

The Buffalo stuff happens at about the 14-minute mark.

He says Buffalo was in it until the last minute because they've got great kids, because he's got a good relationship with Murray, and because Terry Pegula is a superstar. "In the end we couldn't make it work."

I actually believe Babcock. I think on his own, he actually would have come here, but I do believe the family angle. I guess his wife didn't and the family has to be happy. The Toronto gig won't last forever and being a douche to another club can come back to haunt you if you wish to work for another organization because who knows where Tim Murray may be in 8 years? (or less)

Plus if T-pegs felt Mike lied to him, as an owner with deep pockets, who I feel has some clout at the NHL table, he may get to influence other owners as to Babcock's character and if he felt it was poor, Mike may not work again at the NHL level should he want to.

Anyhow, as other posters have stated and I agree. He is The Leafs head coach now and I look forward to booing him and hoping that we beat his ass each and every time we play the Leafs because it just never gets old for me! (most of my friends are Leaf & Hab fans)

I think this is a direct reference to the amount of front loaded money Babcock wanted (as mentioned by Harrington today). And I think it was smart of Pegula not to give it to him. Not for the financial concerns as it's a drop in the bucket, but in terms of, since it was a long term deal, it made more sense to ensure Babcock didn't have as much incentive to walk away sooner rather than later.

GO SABRES!!!

Heavily Persued? We got him for a 2nd, most contenders were cap strapped, and he was willing to go anywhere but Toronto and knew Montreal didn't want him. Knowing that one of his best friends was heading here didn't hurt as well.

That being said, he was playing well and is a solid 4/5 defenseman.

Heavily pursued or not, he is a good player that chose Buffalo over at least one other location. But I'd be willing to bet that Toronto wasn't his only other choice.

Not the way I read it then and not the way I read it now (one only gets to hold up one of the signs), but if that's what he meant, I get it.

I'm not sure I buy Harrington's Notion of Pegula not being willing to give a front loaded contract. When the Bills signed Charles Clay from Miami, they front loaded his contract so the Fins would not be able to match. If they are willing to pay out 18.5 Million in two years for TE, they would pay Babcock in the same manner.

Apparently, Babcock and Shanahan had it planned out all along:  http://www.downgoesbrown.com/2015/05/mike-babcocks-job-interview-transcript.html

Just can't. Tried. Can't. I remembered that this dude is the dude who went on WGR near the end of the tank and said he, and everyone else in hockey, was rooting against the Sabres finishing 30th. He and Wysh, a little bit goes a long way.

eman, Eichel played for Boston UNIVERSITY, not college. You might as well be saying that Jim Kelly was the QB of the Miami Dolphins.

My apologies on that one shrader. Even though I come from the land of McDavid, I did indeed know that Eichel played for Boston University. Typo on my part.

And a shout out to Hoss for showing me how to use the quote button. Still a student on this site but I am learning. Thank guys for keeping me honest!
