SABRES 0311 Posted April 16 Report Posted April 16 Got my first site up and running through GitHub. Still needs some work on viewing on mobile devices but seems good on computers. Written using HTML and CSS on Notepad++. It’s IT jobs focused, not hockey but I am putting together a site for a local barbershop. Completely free of charge to the owner. It’s free for me on GitHub anyway 😆 2 Quote
Taro T Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 Doesn't top Dyngus Day, but hanging out in the hammock w/ the pet listening to Yes while waiting for the bats to start doing their thing. Doesn't get too much better than this. And they're now flying around doing their thing, 2 Quote
Doohickie Posted yesterday at 05:27 PM Report Posted yesterday at 05:27 PM My son was just notified that he's successfully completed the last course for his master's degree in data analytics. This is a guy who started out severely speech delayed, was in special ed in elementary school but by high school was taking AP classes. He has a BA in music and this is his second master's degree. I'm pretty impressed by the things he accomplishes. 1 1 Quote

He started a library science masters but couldn't handle the database course so he switched to education and worked a few years as a music teacher. He was okay with the kids but wasn't crazy about dealing with the administration so he decided to get out of education. His wife has degrees in IT and finance (also a crazy combination) and she helped him take some free online classes that got him going toward data analytics. He pretty quickly got past the level she could understand, but he was able to do it okay. He got a text this morning that said, "Evaluation - Completed: Congratulations! You have completed NKM2 Task 3: Presentation of Findings." That was his last course. They said he'd receive his diploma within a week and a half. The whole degree was online through Western Governors University. (I looked into them a bit and they are accredited and legit.) Quote

It's a person who faces obstacles all through the journey of life without being deterred. Not only does he overcome those challenges, but he masters them. He's not afraid to get off the path he is comfortably on because he has the courage to pursue the challenges of the unknown. Nothing was handed to him. He worked hard and was persistent. A lot of people mistakenly view courage and bravery from a physical and combative standpoint. That's a shallow way to look at those admirable traits. Based on the thumb sketch of what your son had to deal with all his life it's obvious that he possesses internal strength and character at a level that sets him apart from most of us. I'm sure you are proud of your son and also am sure that your son is proud of his parents who set the example for him to shine in life. Congratulations. 1 Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted yesterday at 07:32 PM Report Posted yesterday at 07:32 PM Just booked a trip to the UK for July, going to see Tim Michim, an Australian comedian that rarely comes to the states. Fly into London and drive around hitting some cool smaller towns, see the show in Sheffield and head home. Sucks it's peak tourist season, but still cool nonetheless. Quote

We just got home today from a few weeks in the UK, mostly Scotland. I had been there a few times but it was my wife’s first visit. I love Scotland, we stayed in a tiny town between St Andrews and Edinburgh. We are not “city” people so London is not our cup of tea. So much history makes the UK an interesting place. We really loved the coast of Northern Ireland as well. Wales was just a cup of coffee, so I can’t comment 1 Quote

Bath before hitting north towards the venue. Such beautiful places out that way. I'm def skipping London, We also love the country side and less busy areas in general. Plus I'm a sucker for Bangers and Mash and British treats lol. Doesn't hurt that there are so many direct flights from Toronto 1 Quote

I didn’t attempt it, looks too “wrong” to my eye and I thought I might crack under the pressure of traffic. Thank goodness the train and bus routes are good and on time. I want to see more of Ireland. 1 Quote

I want to see more of Ireland. Oh yeah, I definitley drive. I've driven in so many left hand drive countries. Last week in Grenada it was left drive, but also chaos 😂 When I went last time, I took a train to bath and rented a car there, which involved me getting off the train and walking through a sheep pasture to the rental car place lol. I wanted to avoid London traffic. This time I'm going to get a car at Heathrow and just head west away from the city. I also don't usually book any lodging in advance, I can't tell you how many countries I've just flown to with a car rental paid for in advance and just started driving and exploring. Once I'm tired or feel like stopping I will get an Airbnb or local little place, makes for better stories 😂 3 Quote

Not a bad choice. Edited 2 hours ago by SABRES 0311 1 Quote
