Complaint Thursdays

The housing where I'm hoping to relocate is nowhere near as affordable as I thought from my initial searching based on new info from a friend near there who is suggesting places to avoid. :(

Alright, I'll kvetch.

Logo dude I ranted about last week?

Called me last night at 12:15 AM.

Dude. It's not like you live in California. It is NOT ok to call me about minutiae detail b.s. and then get mad when I don't answer. Sent me an email full of winking emojis insinuating that obviously I was awake, I was just ignoring him. "I know you're a night owl". Bitch, you don't know me. I've worked overtime all week saving someone else's bacon, am stressed out, and try to hit the hay by midnight for sanity's sake. Dick.

The reason I'm working overtime? Coworker got fed up with project and client (it has truly been a nightmare) and guess what, I get called in to save everyone's . As usual. Nevermind the 3 other projects I'm juggling to save even more ...Coworker pitches tantrum and cleans out her desk. Won't speak to anyone. Which is fine. Immature, but ok.... EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT SHE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO WORK WITHIN THE FILES SHE MADE. and she WILL NOT HELP ANYONE. Because "I'm done with it. I want to quit." SO QUIT ALREADY.

About had it. My best friend at work is applying to a couple other places and probably leaving soon, too.

I am officially searching.

Buffalo or Rochester. If you know of a company that needs someone who can do just about anything digital and art related (I can learn fast, I'm not a whiz at 3D or after effects yet), let me know. 4 years, still being paid entry level with horrid/no benefits, I'm ready to move on and do some new work. I'm ready for a professional atmosphere with an actual HR department.

What area are we talking about?

Or is that information provided only on a need to know basis?

Eesh, Jo.  Good luck with the job search (know plenty of that myself!)!

Still waiting to hear back from both places on a firm job offer.

Yesterday I had to be at work at 3am to help our grad student with an experiment so we could fit into the availability for the instrument owned by another lab.  (The assay takes around 8 hours to run before getting to the read step requiring said instrument and they needed us to be at that step by 10am.)  Grad student came in at 2am, I came in at 3am, and we managed to get through everything before either of us got loopy or messed something up.  At least we both got to see a nice sunrise and went home around noon, but I was awake from 1:30am through 10:30pm yesterday.  I'm too old for this!

Denver area.  Apparently housing has gotten way out of control the last two years because it used to be quite affordable... she was telling me about a friend of hers with a $225,000 2 BR condo that they had to take off the market after the meth lab next door caught fire and caused damage to their property.    A one BR condo in an area she said was safe is over $1400/month.

I see.  That is actually not too bad by the standards of what I'm used to in Washington, DC.

Property values there are now officially out of control.

Yeah that would be expect in DC, Boston, or even parts of CA, but Denver??  When I originally looked at cost of living data it was only slightly higher than central PA, but either those data are from a few years ago or based on unsafe parts of the city.  :(

Meth labs happen, sometimes in "safe" places because they know the cops won't be looking that hard. I don't know for sure, but I suspect something was up with one of the houses in my generic suburb neighborhood. It went to forclosure for awhile, then someone came and put a dumpster in the driveway and opened a few windows for days (rain, snow, cold, etc.). Last, they tore all the drywall and floors out. Could be mold, could be meth, who knows.

If I wasn't such a reformed man I would go on a face punching spree. We have been having water troubles since we built the house. Well driller was an ass. Someone supplied a bottle of Dasani for the water sample test to approve the well. I heard that straight out of one of the contractors employees mouth. After 6 grand worth of water treatment the mud that comes out of the well was still not suitable for drinking. We got ourselves a lawyer who was pretty confident he had a good case. Then he got cancer and passed. Long story short. Officially ran out of water completely the other day. I took a shower in the friggin lightning storm last night. I've had a plumber at the house all day. Probably going to have to install a storage tank in the basement and truck water in. Every. Single. Week. I want to punch a face so badly right now I may just punch my own...

My dad has oral lichen planus, which is an ideopathic immune-related disease that causes patchy lesions in the mouth.  About 12-13 years ago, one of those lesions turned out to be cancerous, and he had to have 3 or 4 teeth removed but made a full recovery.  He had laser ablation done back in January to deal with the OLP, but it didn't work and started to get worse again the last several weeks.  Two to three weeks ago, one of the dental implants in that area had come loose and needed to be removed, and last week we found out that a biopsy of the nearby lesion on his cheek is carcinoma.  As far as cancers go he could do a lot worse, but it's still scary to hear.  We're hoping he caught it early again and it hasn't spread, but we don't know if the implant failure was related or coincidental, and he's worried if they need to remove a portion of his jaw that he'll be unable to go back to work since he needs to be able to talk and interact with customers.  My stepmom is going to take good care of him, but sometimes she needs help herself because she deals with depression and her own chronic health issues, and her family are not the type of people you can rely on for help.  All of which makes me feel terrible for strongly considering a job offer that would have me relocating outside of driving distance.  This year, man... 2015 can go F itself.

Best of luck to you bio.  Hopefully you kick 2015's ass the rest of the year.

Around 4 years ago I had surgery on my left knee.  Earlier this week I was pivoting to sit in a chair and felt a huge pop.  It's probably nothing and was just a fluke, but it's been stiff each day since.  I miss my youth where this stuff healed in 30 seconds.

Sorry to hear that Bio. I was just going to complain about people who shoot video with their iPhones vertically, but it seems kinda silly now.

...still pisses me off, though.

Still valid.  ;)  And thanks, everyone.  I'm really thankful we're not talking survivability with him at this point and it could be much worse.  He has a CT scan tomorrow and a visit with the specialist who will do his surgery on Monday, so hopefully we'll know more then.
