I really don't understand in which way one more game in Rochester would have hurt. Its not as if he got a shutout his first time down there while making 40 saves.

Precisely. You have him and Levi split the games for two weeks --- it's not like the Sabres were struggling in goal and needed a spark. They needed Luukkonen to get his games in.
