I think the reality is we will know by the final buzzer how this season is going to go and it may not match the score. It's not the injuries causing elite tweener Bryson to slot in, or dressing a backup goalie with zero NHL experience, that worries me. It's the team's attitude and mentality. If the team plays like they want to win and gives a full effort across all 3 periods, regardless of the final outcome, it would be a big enough change from last season that I might be optimistic for the remainder of the season.

I know the "must win" is used in jest, but this game is very much a "prove it" game for me. I think this team has the talent to make the playoffs--even with the injuries--but I don't think the team has the will or desire to. I would like to be proven wrong.

At least Drury is doing something because he and his Rangers management expect to win.   So even if his moves do not work I can respect that he did something.

Lyon should be an improvement on last year’s UPL.  

Another year for Ruff to get through to them but this coaching staff does not impress me.  

Cornerstones like Tage, Dahlin, and Tuch need to demand more and set a higher standard. 

The defense without Kesserling looks like last year. 

They need a fast start. 

This really is our only hope. And how long is Kesserling out? At least Power is back, and I can't imagine he does not throw some weight around this year. I mean, if he doesn't, he's just going to be booed off the ice every night, no?

Except when we hang 5 on their starter in the 1st period, they pull that guy, and his back up shuts us out and we end up losing 6-5. 🤣

First time since 2018 I’ll be local for the home opener.  Win or lose, I’m grateful to watch the game tonight with family.  Expectations are low, with the absence of Kesselring, the addition of Bryson and question marks in goal, again.  For the sake of the psyche of the team and fan base I hope for a fast start. As long as Igor doesn’t have a shut down performance, they have a good chance. Vegas has the Rags as a slight favorite (-115).

What I'd love to see: 

• Tight checking with few chances allowed 
• The power play come through. It's really time for them to produce. Dahlin cannot ever be considered a Norris candidate if he runs a PP that is a drag 
• Goaltending that is good when it has to be with no soft goals allowed 
• The top line continues to show the magic chemistry 
• The team to play as a team and show some toughness 
• Them getting a lead and holding it 
• Sabrespace actually happy for a change ❤️

Dear Paul Hamilton, Zach Benson didn't put up 28pts while being a 1st line winger. He was bounced around all last year by Ruff. Benson to Rochester to gain confidence or whatever misses the point of who Benson is. Kids confident.

Maybe not, so far he has not been very successful, but he isn't sitting idle and resting on his reputation either.  I assume he knows he is not long for the job unless they get a lot better right now.  

My point was that this is a highly competitive league and most teams make moves to improve year over year.   

Montreal and Ottawa got in last year.   Washington had a big rebound year.   I look at Boston, they missed the playoffs and wrote their fans a letter saying they were just as disappointed and they were still committed to winning - they have a big rebuild ahead.  I look at St Louis, they missed the playoffs and replaced their coach mid season and somehow snuck into the playoffs and almost won the first round.  

The Buffalo Sabres?  We are going to see if their moves improved the team, its a long season.
