It's time!

We are the laughing stocks of the NHL and we now need to go hard for Marner.

We need to present a 14 million dollar offer sheet.

Let's do this, we're sick of this crap!

I've been following the Sabres since 1973. 1973!

There is absolutely no excuse for the product we've been forced to root for the past 15 years.

ENOUGH!

The only way you're even getting him to consider Buffalo is something to the tune of 15x7 which, to be honest I think he'd still take lower AAV for Vegas.  Also I think you forget who our cheapass owner is.

If Adams makes an offer sheet to a UFA, it will be official that he has no idea what he’s doing.

Eh, don't think it really matters if he gives the offer to a UFA verbally, in writing, or via smoke signals.  The team will still have to submit the particulars to the league office should he get a deal agreed to.  And that WILL have to be in writing.

I’m calling complete b.s. on this.

The Leafs are going to lose one of the best players in the league - and the NHL is going to make sure they are compensated by forcing Vegas to trade them good players out of fear they will be investigated for “tampering.”

No way Vegas didn’t (supposedly talking to Marner’s people) do what every single team does with UFAs

Now suddenly the league wants to make an example of someone?  What an absolute joke.

Per the responses - yes the Leafs are extorting and blackmailing Vegas.

Ok, Robertson or Marner is a 100% never in a million years happening!!! so definitely Step away from the Crack!!! Take those 2, look down at players 10 levels below them and there you will find future Sabres for the same amount of money! LOL

Marner is just not a 14 mill a year player, let vegas pay that.

My best guess is if Marner goes to Vegas he gets something in the Rantanen range ($12-$13). $14 mil was, I think, always the outer edge of what it would take a non-contender or a team in a high-tax state or province, to be in on him.

Even if Marner was willing to come here at the price you suggested, it wouldn't make sense for the Sabres to pay that type of contract for one player. It would limit our options in signing extensions to our own players and close out our options for players that might be available on the market. And what happens if an elite player like Marner gets hurt while he is consuming so much of the cap space? For the amount of money we're talking about here I would rather sign two good players and thicken our roster with more overall talent.

I'd love Marner, but ..

I guess you have to make the call but I don't think you're getting him here without paying him and exorbitant amount of money. That will hurt your roster in many other spots.

More importantly, you're going to get close to peak play from him for maybe 2 or 3 more years. Is this team going to contend for a cup then?

I don't think so. Yes we all want them to make the playoffs but I don't want to mortgage 5 years down the road from now just to make the playoffs and get bounced in the first or second round. If you could get him at the same rate as any other team then sure, but you don't overpay for a contract that will be bad a few years down the road.

When you lived in a pent house it's not very likely you are going to move to the ghetto.

I cannot see Mariner's agent even returning Adams phone calls TBH... how much money is enough... why would you effectively take the last real quality years of your career and sign for 5 or 7 years here...  Dude has got to have a burning desire to win a cup... and if he doesnt is that the player you target?  Bottom line, this is not a place you come too if you want to be successful.. we have a lot to do before we change that narrative... maybe someday... but not today...  then there is the money.. so many holes to fix, I dont think Mariner gets you to the promise land there is a whole culture to rebuild...

I just hope KA isn’t as defeatist as alot of you all.

Hell yea he should chase Marner!  Do I expect it to be successful? Not really.  But if he isn’t out there putting a full effort into recruiting a Mitch Marner, well add it to the other reasons he should be fired.

I agree, he should be going after all the top FAs available, it's not like this roster is good enough anywhere that adding a player of his caliber is going to make them worse.

I don't see him signing here though if it's between Buffalo and some Cup contending teams, but people seem to be forgetting that he is also from the Toronto area so playing in Buffalo is still close to home for him without the pressure of playing in Toronto.

It’s not defeatist to use some common sense and exercise some strategic thinking. Acting out of frustration only leads to more frustration. You may not be aware of it but delusions are not grounded on reality.

Condescending much?

I can man-splain too. A good part of a GMs job is to be a recruiter.  If KA isn’t actively recruiting the best upgrades to this roster because you all think the idea of Marner landing here is delusional, KA deserves to be on the same sidelines you are sitting on.

I’d prefer to let Terry do it and make the playoffs

Not my money

Absolutely. No brainer.
