Add Indianapolis to the NHL expansion derby, along with Atlanta, Houston, Austin and New Orleans. (What happened to Kansas City, Omaha and Cincinnati?)

Few years away but, any one of those cities will taste the playoffs before we do again.  Hell, I’d wager that they would make the finals before we see the playoffs again!!  😀

So the draft is over. Is this the best configuration of our lineup right now barring more moves?

TBD Norris TNT

Zucker Kulich Tuch

Quinn McLeod Benson

Malenstyn Krebs Greenway

Dahlin Byram

Power Kesserling

JBD Timmons

UPL

Levi

Picking up a first line forward is a must.  Next, they extended Quinn, he needs to take a big step this season.

You are missing Doan.  Doan should get a good long look at 3rd line ice time.  Lindy must want some jam - Doan and Benson, or Doan and Greenway in certain situations.

I have no idea where Doan goes. Switch with Malenstyn?

I would sign up for a similar deal for McLeod

Geekie had 33 goals. If he cracks 30 again that's a hell of a deal. More likely he's in the 20s but I'd still put McLeod a step below that. 4 million seems right to me for McLeod.

We wont  know until they see how they play together but Doan will be pushing to crack the line up.

This is an INSANE deal for a Dman that got 12 pts in 68 games last year. If KA did this this place would erupt.

Average NHL salary is a tad over $4M right now. NHL says in 3 years it will be $5M. Three years after that $6M, if the trend continues.

Is Nick Hague an average player? Because in terms of AAV, he just got an average contract

I think this is bad math. You would want to look at average salary of defenders and go from there. Idk if it would move it up or down but I would guess down. Hague isn't worth 5.5 a year in the same way Samuelsson isn't worth 4.3, at least IMPO

You might be right, looking at just D might change things.

I just think people tend to focus too much on the now with the AAV on long-term contracts.

The way I look at it is that $5.5 for this year is about what you pay a #3 and in 6 years likely projects to #4 money.

Personally, not a fan of the contract because I think Hague isn’t going to be a 3/4 over the term.

WGR talking Marchand. He's 37 and doesn't score like he used to, but he certainly would be a culture changer. He also plays LW, which is our greatest need at forward and won't be super pricey.  Getting him to consider Buffalo is the issue.

Quick glance at the preds depth chart he’s currently the 3rd pair, 6th dman. Is that worth paying 5.5 per year for? I’d want to find avg salary of 3rd pair or 6th dman and go off that.

Good for him! I always thought he was a decent Middle Dman with a bad rap.

With the right partner, Jokiharju is fully capable. He and Zadorov were really good together as the top pair last season (albeit in mop-up time). This year, they'll be a 2nd pair as long as Lindholm-McAvoy return to health.

Yes, sure. Marchand-Benson-Zucker down the left side would be pretty sweet. But... yeah. I live in a fantasy world 70% of my waking hours, but even I have limits.

He's a very good 3rd pairing D-main.  He's an adequate 2nd pairing D-man.  The friggin' Sabres LOVED playing him with Dahlin and he is under no circumstance a good top pairing guy.

The Sabres trading him was like the drunk trying to sober up finally cleaning out the liquor cabinet.  The best way to start to break an addiction once you've made the decision to break it is to remove the substance from easy access and also to remove those that enable your addiction from your life.  Trading Henri was the 2nd step after identifying that they had a problem.
