Chicago Blackhawks Sexual Assault Allegations

All these threads degenerate for one reason... there's pushback against assumptions and that above all can't be tolerated. Then comes moral outrage and "shut 'er down."

No one has any idea whether something happened and where it lies on the assault spectrum if it did.

What we do know for sure is that whatever happened was reported within the organization. Then it wasn't referred to the proper public authorities to do their job in investigating this matter.

But, why don't these news reports ever give details?  A defendant has a right to face his accuser and a right to know what the charges are.

Like someone intimated above, I'm surprised that the hockey players just didn't deck the guy if he was trying to force himself on them.

Or was it more like a date rape kind of thing or even just a "pass" that went awry?  If a football player can come out as gay, we'd be

kidding ourselves to think that there are no gay hockey players.

Now the Michigan conviction seems to carry some weight and indicate a pattern of behaviour.   But the Michigan case was different in

that the he was the coach in a position of physical and hierarchical power over someone who is legally presumed to be a minor (what

is the age of consent in MI?).    Law enforcement is all over anything that smacks of minors.

Maybe there is a presumption that adult hockey players can take care of themselves.   But what stopped the players from coming forward?

Really.   A certain Bill has enough conviction to risk ending his career over a personal medical choice.  Why can't adult hockey players go to

the police themselves if they really feel that wronged?  That's my problem with this situation.  Don't accuse someone years later while allowing

bad apples to continue their abuse while you make up your mind that maybe you should report it.

This was the problem PA but again, go with your assumptions theory after all as Sherlock Holmes once said "Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts"

Which is basically all we have commented on so far. Something was covered up, what it was exactly is still unknown but it involves some type of alleged sexual abuse.

Added to what has been said a recommendation was given on behalf of this individual who got another job.

The return of PAngloss and his fondness for an a priori understanding of the world?

I'm the only one not assuming and not trying to twist facts to suit a theory.

Do any of you know what the lawsuit by John Doe (Hawks player) alleges?

Or, like the url in the Rich Gaentzler "scandal," is a thread title on SabreSpace enough evidence?

Again my comment on the facts are that it was clearly reported to ppl within the team and then nothing happened. What that looks like or how that occurred are the things we are all waiting on. The only other "speculation" is that it could go high up in the organization which we do not know.

But I have read multiple sources on this and it seems in 2010 possibly 2 players reported some type of sexual abuse by the video scout to several people in the organization and then nothing happened. The abuse is alleged to have happened. I hope I have used sufficiently hedged language to cover the fact that the allegations were alleged and we don't know fully what they are.

What "it" is is pretty important to the discussion. The reaction here has largely assumed that "it" is one thing. And that "it" was so horrific the Hawks should have done x, y and z and prevented a future crime.

Well we know there was a future crime. You can read all about that.

The guy is a convicted sexual offender.

Story comes out that he did something similar in the past while employed by the Chicago NHL team.  Player(s) told people in authority about it and the story was fed up the food chain, when at somepoint it was not further acted upon.  Coach leaves the Chicago team after the cup winning season in 2010.  Goes on to other employers and same things happen leading to a conviction, or guilty plea.

This stinks all the way up in Chicago.

Except that according to the lawsuit they're not the same things. That's the rush to judgment I am warning against. It's an ink blot test and people see what they want.

You can expect a nerdy little Latin insult from Smell.

Thank you very much, Brent.

Now, law enforcement, see if this is true.  If so, then how much.  And then punish appropriately.

Charged? After 10 years? The fact so many knew and nothing was done in the legal realm could suggest that what the coach did in this case (I'm not talking about what he was convicted of doing with minors later) was on one end of the "sexual misconduct" spectrum. Can we even get the terms right? Sexual assault? Sexual misconduct?

He tried to get an of-age Hawk to have sex with him. In the process, he apparently watched porn and pleasured himself. It's not good, but cops aren't going to bust through his door and arrest him for something he probably wouldn't have been charged with at the time. Legal eagles please chime in.

All the former coaches from Chicago getting asked about the 2010 allegations.

I love that first quote. "I have contacted the organization being investigated to inform them that I am willing to cooperate with them on the independent review that is independent of the organization that is being investigated that I am communicating with."

You only ever show up when politics or this stuff come up and I always find your takes to be, pretty questionable. I didn't even cover the "pass gone awry" or the implication that a coach isn't in a position of power with someone once they are an adult.

What does being a gay hockey player have to do with any of this?

Good catch. I wondered why he put his two cents in on this thread.

As for someone saying that this could be a Penn State redux, all I have to say is, "Ugh. Not again."
