We're halfway there...

Emotionally, I'd love it. I think it'd be a great story if he comes back and takes us to the promised land.

But I'd still probably rather have somebody new.

I want him to take us there, he deserves another shot in buffalo, it hire him as assistant coach if he wants.   :P

I was a big fan of Lindy's, but I'm not sure about bringing him back.  It's kinda hard to square his results in Dallas with "coach who knows how to win in the NHL as the game is currently played and who knows how to get the most out of young potential stars."

This is where I am

Except that the almost universal opinion is that it was all goaltending or lack thereof

Except this is a good point.

I'll take him if it gets rid of Bylsma. But I don't really care to have him back that badly.

No, this.

Possibly.  They were 2nd-last in GA/game and 11th in fewest shots against per game, which supports your theory.  OTOH, they were only tied for 16th in scoring (but 12th in shots per game).

Do you guys want him back?

For whatever it's worth, the Stars had the second most points in the NHL last season, and got to game 7 of the semis. I can think of reasons not to bring him back (such as I think he's a good coach, and I want to find a great one....plays a system that exposes goaltenders to quality chances, and so on), but "doesn't know how to win in the modern NHL" isn't one of them.

I can't believe how many people want him back. Did we all forget how badly this board wanted him fired?

Hopefully Ruff lands somewhere soon, like Las Vegas and stays there for a while, or else he'll be the modern version of fans begging for a return of Drury/Briere.

Lindy would be a great choice for vegas...Dallas is alot like the Sabres in that they have good forwards but their d is not great and their goaltending is not NHL calibre (I think we have better goaltending)...the first thing Dallas needs to do is get  goalie...as for bringing Lindy back???this is the same board that was running him out of town not too long ago (me included although I still prefer him to Blysma's "system")

Except this isn't Lindy anymore.  He hasn't been like that in forever.

he'll be like that again when he is in buffalo :P

If I was lindy , I'd probably be looking at retirement.  Then again the smile he gets when he is looking at the sabres on that computer screen tells me he loves this team so much he won't pass up on another shot at coaching them.

I'm probably not seeing things to clear when it comes to ruff, only really started watching the sabres in 2006, so ruff still can't do much wrong as a coach for me.

Bylsma getting fired will be fine for me though :P

I wasn't running him out of town. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but it was contentious. "The Board" isn't an automaton with one opinion.

It's what I remembered. Everyone knew he needed to be fired, but no one was really happy about it.

Oh, I was ready for him to go at the end.  But also recall saying that considering all he'd been through- the Rigas scandal, the bankruptcy, the frugal Golisano years- that if he wanted to retire as a Sabre, he'd earned that right.  Based on those admittedly sentimental reasons, I think the guy at least deserves a look as far as a return to the Sabres goes.

If Lindy is smart, he won't take a second go around with a flawed core here.

His problem here wouldn't be the core.  His problem would be the same as it was in Dallas this past season:  he needs good-to-great goaltending to run his system.

Yeah, winning the toughest division in hockey last year is pretty poor stuff.

Bingo.  Well, on most of it.

The biggest tragedy would be if he ended up in Las Vegas.

My first post in that thread:

As for Lindy's firing, a few thoughts:

1. I wish they would have let him resign, or that he would have resigned without ultimatum. Either would have been far classier than relieving him of duties.

2. I love ya Lindy, but your time has come.

3. Looking at the comments on NHL.com, there is a lot of respect from around the league for Lindy, plus a lot of my Point 2 above.

4. Good luck in the future, Lindy.

5. Thank you for your service to the organization.

I'll stand by that.

They lost in the 2nd round last year.

Yeah, winning the toughest division in hockey last year is pretty poor stuff.

Well, in 4 years there, he made the playoffs twice and won one round.  So, since 2007, he's won one playoff round.

The Stars also dropped a staggering 30 points in the standings this year relative to last year.  That means something is seriously wrong there.

If my choices are DDB or Lindy, I'm taking Lindy in a heartbeat, but facts is facts.
