Okposo Hospitalized - Update: Reportedly Doing "Much Better"

That Aud Smell

Recommended Posts

I went through a situation back in 2012 where my sodium level dropped really low and I ended up in a medically induced coma for five days. They did CT scans, EEG's, blood labs, etc. every day until I stabilized enough to be brought out of the coma. To this day they never came up with a reason for what happened. I left the hospital after 12 days and have been fine since. Well, what would be considered fine for me anyways. It's definitely a scary situation when no one has answers for your family and friends. And also something you never really think about until it happens. Hopefully they come up with amswers for Kyle and his family and he can get back to a normal life, with or without hockey.

I had a stroke almost 3 years ago.  They  put me in the ICU when I went  to the ER saying I was not well. My BP was 247/ something.Asked why I hadn't got a room by 9 PM and they said they were waiting for an ICU room (an oh s--t moment). Next day they were giving me a brain scan when I hear "CODE STROKE" on the PA.I ask the guy "who is that for?" He said   "It's for you.". I then thought or said  "Oh S--it!" , threw up and don' have a clear recollection of the next three days.

So the Sabres making a statement of their concern is hype?

No. I'm talking about Koziol.

They can't really say anything, so i'm not so sure what kind of update you were waiting for... ?

Koziol kept teasing an update through the highlights and postgame interviews. He said it sounds serious and the Sabres have a statement.

Terrible news about Okposo.  I hope he enjoys a full recovery, or at least as much as possible.

It took a year before they finally decided my wife has fibromyalgia.  I think the testing is better now, but back then it was more of a process of elimination, with some really nasty diseases considered (like MS).  Fibro's bad enough, but at least it's not life threatening.

My wife suffers from the same thing - it sucks.   At least she has a top shelf fibro specialist, and gets good meds/treatment path for it.

That sounds tough, being limited on so many meats.

Mine is fine with meats - she tries to avoid bread and carbs (potatoes, rice, etc).   She follows this basic protocol;  which has mixed reviews but she says it works for her.

Okposo developed a detached retina a couple/few years ago.

Any chance that the retina might have been indicative of some larger issue? Something vascular would be my (uneducated) guess.

I had the same thought. Sickle cell disease and diabetes are two systemic conditions that can lead to a detachment. They don't seem to fit under "neurological." In Kyle's case, I remember some debate about whether his being a hockey player who routinely takes jolts and big hits or merely someone who's very nearsighted contributed to it.

Bumping this to the top. Anyone with any news whatsoever please post...rumors are great too...

Nothing that I've heard. The Buffalo News did publish a Q&A that covers some general info. on Neuro ICUs, why the Sabres can't release more info. etc.

Hoping for the best but was wondering about the impact on the team. If it unfortunately becomes a long-term issue like Cody McCormick, what if any cap relief will the Sabres be allowed? He's a top six forward who would be hard to replace, especially if they don't get cap relief. It could factor into the decision to resign Kane.
