Sunday Rants

People need to stop bowing out when they turn. You aren't driving a semi. Stay tight to the yellow line and freaking turn.

People need instructions on how to wait in a line. Don't stand 10-15 feet behind the person in front of you aimlessly looking around leading others to question whether or not you are in said line. Stand 3-4 feet behind the person in front of you and at least pretend like you are staring at the menu/cashier.

For all you en-why-cee types, it's waiting in line. Not on-line. On line is where you watch porn and buy concert tickets.

Just give a damn thank you wave, even if you don't mean it, I paid attention, let you cut me off, even if you don't mean it, just flip your damn hand up for 0.3 seconds and all will be good.

Why do you go to church like you're going out clubbing, if it's leftover from the night before, I get it.... But actively doing so... Cmon

Lastly I was at breakfast and I was going over a medical case with a colleague, we weren't loud by any means, the women at the table next, very rudely asked us to stop talking, as they were "trying to eat".... Typically I would be nice and say sorry, however I requested what was so bad that made them not want to eat??!! She replies, I was listening in on your conversation and it was making my stomach turn.....

I'll leave that there for now!!! Friggin people

Driving under the speed limit. What's with my WNY people?

Stopping on a merge? Merge with speed people, do not stop dead on the thruway to let people merge in.

Texting and driving, WTF stop it. You are holding up traffic, and endangering everyone around you.

People standing in a single line when there are multiple cashiers. What are you doing? Make two lines people.... Edited by DirtDart

About 15 years ago they changed my exit off of 490 to have its own lane. So no need to merge or wait for traffic, just keep on driving in the lane as you exit. For whatever reason about 1 in 20 cars stops to merge into traffic that they aren't merging with. It shuts down the whole exit.

High beams.  Far too many people use them, blinding oncoming traffic for no good reason, and apparently unaware they even have their high beams on.  That should be a ticketable offense (and by ticketable, I mean in the most severe version of police brutality ticketable).

I've had a couple vehicles with LED headlights and I'd constantly get flashed as if I had my high beams on. Not sure if that is what you are experiencing but I can attest its annoying for all invloved.

In nY you can get ticketed for leaving your high beams on.  There is a distance where you are required by law to drop your high beams.  I'm not sure what the distance is.  I turn my high beams off as soon as I see headlights coming.

I've got scarring on my right eye lens.  Bright headlights are dazzling to me.  I get halos and starburst patterns really bad from them, so I'm a bit quick to flash my brights when it happens.  The LED lights in particular are bad for me.

Agreed! Another pet peeve on the opposite end of the headlight spectrum is morons who continue to drive in the rain without using their headlights. We know you think you can see but it's not about your perfect vision...it's about the other vehicles on the road being able to see you. It's also a state law here in Virginia that you have to have them on when using your windshield wipers.

If you're getting flashed, chances are they're aimed too high.  It isn't that they're too bright, it's that they're aimed up into people's eyes.

The larger rant is that people aren't taught this stuff when they get their licenses anymore.  Here in Texas, the two most popular ways to do drivers ed is "parent taught" which in many cases is a joke, or going to a professional driving school which covers the basics and nothing more.

[Old Guy's Rant:  Back in my day, we spent half the summer in drivers ed at the local high school, and the instructors (which were often our HS teachers making some summer income) told us not just what we needed to pass, but what we needed to be good drivers, including the more subtle unwritten rules, like what high beams are for.]

The problem isn't using them...it's not turning them off when you see oncoming traffic. Some of my commute is on dark country roads with deer seemingly everywhere--I consider high beam use borderline essential.

I'm even close to upgrading my headlights to some HIDs...sorry, may your eyes forgive me

They certainly have their purpose.  City driving where there are streetlights is not among them.

People have to just not notice they're on in that situation, right? I mean, as long as lighting is fine, they do basically zilch. I choose to believe people are oblivious rather than asshats.

I concur that they are oblivious, but would take it further and say that it does not preclude them from being asshats.

Does NY still require the 5 hour? You know that waste of a day at the local YMCA or some such place. You take the class and test after you've had your learner permit and before you can schedule your road test.

Oh, and road tests! In my day, we took them on the road! City streets, live, actual driving conditions. In the 3 city's that I've lived in in Pennsylvania, they do them on a "closed course" aka dmv parking lot. How is that helpful at all at determining how a person will react while driving in traffic?
