Not even half the season over, and the Sabres are within striking distance to win the Shart. This is the best Carrion Season ever.

Nobody is catching Edmonton.

Meanwhile, let's all try to convince ourselves that Pavel Zacha will lead us to a Cup someday. I guess it's not impossible.

We still have over 50% of the season to go, I think we can still make a run for Edmonton.

I can't imagine it happening for a bunch of reasons, but the two big ones are:

1. Our players are trying to win; Edmonton's players are trying to get traded

2. Edmonton plays in the West; we play in the East. To put that in perspective, Colorado is considered a bad team in the West and completely dismantled us on Saturday night in Buffalo.

Alternate perspective: Colorado isn't a bad team in the West, they're just a bad team. Considering their dismantling of us what does it say about the Sabres? We're very much contenders for the Shart.

Hey, this is Buffalo we're talking here. Of course Zacha can lead us to a cup. Roy and Connolly were Top 20 Centers at one time and Darcy has done nothing wrong.

History has proven that the NHL standings ultimately shake out based on team goal differential.. namely the team with the worst diff always finishes last. Buffalo is still in last place...

some recent history:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm?season=20122013&type=LEA (wtf TB?)

..for that reason I'm not worried. ARI and CAR are better teams than their record shows... they'll move up, while I fully expect BUF to drop.

Carolina and Phoenix are worse teams and will become worse when they ship off some players (Sekera, Yandle, Vermette and a few others all have potential to be moved).

You think Carolina and Arizona are worse than us? I don't think that at all, perhaps if they start shipping off players, but right now, no way.

No, they are deserving of finishing last.

The number one pick will go to the team that wins the lottery — us.

The Sabres finishing outside of the bottom 2 and winning the lottery will be the most excited I'll be for a Buffalo sports team since 2007

Well, the bad news last night is everyone in action ran the table. The good news is there were only 3 teams in action and only 1 of those (the Desert Dogs) are among the Carrion elite at present.

Extremely full slate tonight as everyone but the Otters are in action including 2 potential 1 point matchups. There's a 4.5 bagger set to be played in the swamps of Joisey as the Candy Canes traipse into town. There's an even bigger 5 bagger brewing on the Albertan plains as the Desert Dogs try to calculate a plan to stop the juggernauts (aka the Euler, aka the team that Gretzky forgot). The Sabres are in Detroit hoping to gain on those 4.

If ever there was a night you need picture in picture in picture; tonight's that night.

So we're shooting for a Sabres win in regulation, a Canes OT loss, and an Oilers OT loss.... Sabres would pickup 2 points, while ARI/NJ pickup a single point, and EDM/CAR stay put.

gotta lose tonight... tonight is HUGE

If they don't end up with one of the big two after all this it is REALLY REALLY going to suck essentially not having hockey for a couple years

Sadly it looks like the Sabres are in trouble in this one, as the Red Wings are down to their 3rd goalie
