Are there any Leafs fans here?

The Leafs have finished ahead of the Sabres just 13 times in 43 years.

In that span, they've missed the playoffs 18 times, won just one division title, and never advanced to the finals.

Anything stating the Sabres should be jealous of the Leafs is revisionist history.

The Leafs can finish dead last for 10 straight years and still be far more relevant than the Sabres on the NHL landscape.

You're an embarrassment to Sabres fans.

I would be offended if I thought for one second you had any idea what the true meaning of "fan" was.

I believe the story went that the prototype Sabres sweater was based on a Leafs sweater.

I believe they talk about on that DVD the Sabres gave out to potential season ticket holders years ago. The basic home white & road blue concept was a take of the Leafs uniforms. A much better choice than the Canucks made at that time.

Preach it brotha! All nuckin futs!!

At the Amerks game last night, I got beers with a bud. Wife goes to get food at different concession. Nothing was said about where of when we'd meet up again. This was 10 minutes before puck drop. I figured she'd know enough to look at the tickets, which she had in her possession, and meet us at the seats. Nope.

I get a text, "where are you".

I reply "at seats."

"Where's that"

"Look at your ticket"

"I'm not a retard"

OKAY then...

That is hilarious.

Yes, and the NY Giants can do the same and still be far more relevant than the Bills on the NFL landscape. Why? It's the largest freaking city in the country. Same goes for Toronto. What is your point, here?

His point is that he loves to hate the Sabres. But you already knew that.

I know this not to be the case (it's just a mild self-team-loathing thing), but I do wonder what the hell the point is, especially in a thread where many, if not most, people are saying that they have no particular hatred for the Leaves.

Anyone have video evidence that it was Leaf's fans?
They were all Coors Light cans....
The Trial of Ian McDermott. Aud, you up, boo?

i was off the grid during the holiday. i would not have been much help, since i'm not even sure who ian mcdermott is (and that's after googling his name). ghost pegged it, anyway - you need no more proof than that.

I'm not sure that Toronto is the world's premier hockey market (Montreal might want to have a say about that), but if it is, it's only because it's the largest city in Canada. It's not because the team is historic or well-run or anything like that.

toronto is a funny market, to me. if you think there's a chet-and-muffication (hmmm, muffication) in buffalo, you should try going to the ACC for a game or other event. it's a very, very corporate scene - at least in my experience. so i don't doubt that TO is the market where the most money can be made with hockey. i just don't think that's how you should measure "best hockey market". or maybe that is how you should measure it? anyway, my favorite north american hockey market (outside of my own) is montreal, and it ain't even close.

Interesting question. I am a Sabres fan first, but I do cheer for and follow the Leafs. I think it's parts growing up on the boarder, watching Hockey Night in Canada as a boy, and discovering the beauty that is Ontario, Canada, as I grew up. I "holiday" in Bancroft, canoe in Algonquin, fish in Dokis - I've been as far north as New Liskeard. Bancroft was also my honeymoon. I love the uniforms and the crest. Rivalry, yes. I loved the Sabres win last night, but I like the Leafs.

Aside: I live in Tampa but manage offices between Tampa and Naples. I see many Ontario license plates, sweaters, sweatshirts, tee shirts, etc. I have fun bellowing "Go, Leafs, Go" in malls, parking lots and restaurants when I see an Ontario family. I've met some nice people and have had fun.

we've kicked this can around quite a bit here, from time to time.

i am a fan of no team but my own, and i don't go in for "well, my first favorite team is ... ." i just don't. i have never heard someone explain a priority of their favorite teams - of whom they are "fans" - and had it make any sense, to me. being a fan is a monogamous [sic?] sort of thing, IMO.

that said, i am quite fond of the leafs and of southern (and near north) ontario. my reasons are not unlike neo's. when the leafs had gretzky's kings in the conference finals, i was pulling for them - but not like i would've been cheering for the sabres in the same situation.

This is where I'm at. I'm a Sabres fan only and to have a second favorite would only serve to cheapen my allegiance to the Sabres. I "hate" all the rest of the teams across a spectrum ranging from mild indifference to complete loathing.

interesting to read comments. Have at times pondered what is game/after game enthusiasm , anger, ect allowed to cool down a different perspective. I am not a fan of anything apart from my family and friends, I am fanatic about them I love them. I do follow the Leafs, and living now in southwestern ontario, given it home to the oha, I see many young players on teams in London, Guelph, Kitchener, and so on, many of these young men go on to play for teams all over the NHL and as such follow many teams, wishing well for the individuals if not the teams. Because of proximity, do root most for the Leafs, and Sabres, if it a call, I would be insincere if I did not admit I would root for Leafs over Sabres, but at that, providing the group of you do not rag on me, I do not find a Sabre win the end of the world. :) ( I have a problem with the term fan, these days, it seems to me, many in media elsewhere the term fan synonymous with fool , it seeming the view being "fans" should shut up, pay the money, let the owners count it and the players bank it, thanks to the dreams and passions of the "fan". )

No doubt often enough read much the dislike for Leafs on this forum by many, have wondered though are there any similar to myself perhaps in reverse, where I do root for Leafs, do root for Sabres as close second and at times even am conflicted when the two teams play. Is there anyone willing to admit and suffer the scorn perhaps that you do root for Leafs as second team perhaps, or is this a nasty thought a blasphemy perhaps. :o :)

Hate the Leafs... But love having millbank around...

Just an FYI, anyone talking rivalry with Philly is kidding themselves unless they're happy with it being one-sided. The Sabres don't even register on the radar here. Pens, Rangers, then Devils and Caps.

That raises the big question. What other teams/fans consider the Sabres to be a major rival?

I get nothing but ###### from all the Bruins fans I know. So I'd rank them pretty high.

I get a lot of ###### from my friends who are bruins fans too. That being said, they know our team is a joke and they are never even mildly concerned when they're going to play the sabres.

a team's current (mis)fortunes may affect a true rivalry, but they should not vitiate it. a team's record in a given season is akin to weather, whereas a rivalry is more akin to climate.

Well, where is it a big game, or even something a little more special, when the Sabres come to town? Carolina comes to mind because of '06. I'm not sure the Sabres rolling into Montreal or Boston moves the needle at all.

I miss the days when you could say for certain that Buffalo had rivals and you could rattle them off without anyone disagreeing. Boston, Montreal, Quebec, Hartford, and to a good extent the Isles. Throw in rowdy fans visting from P-burgh and Toronto.

Official "Hate Index"

0-25....We're Well-Wishers

26-40...If you fail, we'll chuckle

41-60...We're not so worried about you, but like our Aunt's ex-husband, if you F-up, we'll be sure to point it out and say what a D-Bag you are.

61-70...You are a Darcyesque weasel. Not the slime of the world, but we know what you are made of....

71-80...Choke on it....but only to the point of unconsciousness....not death...

81-90...We are willing to hire professional street walkers to perform at your function with the hopes you acquire something and pass it on to your wife.

91-100..When Russia and China finally attack, we hope a nuke lands 30 miles (50km) out from your city center for maximum suffering before you go.

Columbus 14 You're the only city that people would hesitate going to over Buffalo

Winnipeg 17 We hate you got screwed out of your team for 2 decades, but still sort of pissed we ended up with May over Tkachuk

Phoenix 19 You are our bankrupt, western, step-sister. But you stole Winnipeg.....

Minnesota 26 You too had the Stars stolen from you. Your crappy jerseys and pickled herring hold you back

Florida 29 You are a nice place to visit. That helps soothe a bunch of rubber rats and ignorant rink attendees

Nashville 31 Your GM is as crappy as Darcy and still has a job. You gave a 1st for Paul Gaustad and your jersey looks like baby poop

St. Louis 33 Your airport sucks, and you have Hitchcock

Tampa Bay 34 Other than winning a Cup with our ex AHL coach...it's all good...

San Jose 36 You do what we do, but better...build soft teams that get bounced when it matters...and turquoise?

Edmonton 38 Don't come shopping here!....and you are lucky the WHA went into the crapper....

Colorado 43 You take away a division rival, you win multiple cups soon after, and you hire Claude Lemieux

Anaheim 44 You win a cup as an expansion team named after a Disney film based on a Sheen brother.....

LA 45 Trade for Gretzky, then his wife and Rick Tocchett launder cash for a decade...smooth....

Detroit 48 Thanks for being good all the time....A-holes.....

Vancouver 53 You get the Sedin Brothers......we get the Shannon Brothers......

NewJersey 54 You made me stay up until 2 AM when I wasn't allowed to drink....

Calgary 55 F Jamie Macoun.......

Chicago 58 You win 2 Cups with OUR...white trash.....

Islanders 61 Thanks for Al Arbour's reference letter on Darcy. And Billy Smith is a bum.

Rangers 64 All those years of no salary cap and stealing free agents....

Washington 73 Your coach was chickensh!t...you went to the cup with an AHL goalie we swapped for casino credit...and you killed Tim Russert

Pittsburgh 74 So we get to live your failure because Terry and Ted know you...and Mario lucked into a freebie on Dom

Montreal 77 We wear yellow pajamas and banana slugs when you wear the same thing for a century....

Ottawa 78 Vial, Neil, Emery.....F U

Dallas 82 You know......it'd be higher except you have Lindy now...hahaha!

Carolina 85 It's because of you, every time I get a sexual offender flyer in the mail, I don't take it seriously.....

Philly 88 I'm convinced the orange jerseys are for hiding the vomit after your proud citizens are forced to drink rubbing alcohol because it's cheap

Toronto 89 Toronto is the city that takes refugees deemed too dangerous for the US. They all seem to be hockey fans with a travel budget to boot...

Boston 93 Awww....F It. Just let the nuke hit Faneuil Hall......
