HA, no more Hockey period basically. No Devils, Isles or first place Rangers. No more Knicks. While i'm not big on any of these teams I am a sports addict and niow the regular sports teams on our TV will be the Nets, Mets and Yankees. Awesome...........

Wow. I actually tried to email TWC to show some support regarding their stance against MSG's demands. (Yeah, I'm missing some games, too. I also see TWC's side: I don't want to pay for anymore unwanted channels. I'm already paying for about 200 of them.)

What I got was an e-mail feedback system that was impossible to access because it wouldn't accept ANY answer to the "ReCaptcha" question. (If you're unfamiliar with ReCaptcha, google it. It's actually a good idea, when it works, which is on every website other than TWC that I've ever seen.)

So I enter the help "chatroom." I think I was typing to a twelve-year-old.* Had no idea what I was talking about (which, at this point, was the email system and not MSG). I really was trying to be a good citizen, here. "Can you elaborate on that?" was his best response. To EVERYTHING.

Finally, I called TWC. I let them know that I was trying to compliment them, originally, and that there was a problem with their feedback system. I read back the entire chat with "Peter," the aforementioned twelve-year-old. The woman who took my call could not have cared less.

The amazing thing is, I was trying to take a few minutes to compliment their stance. It ended up being about 25 minutes of trying to tell them that there is a flaw in their feedback system. And I don't think they give a damn either way.

I'm not a dish candidate; I need the high-speed internet too badly, and I live in Buffalo (so no FiOS for me!). But WOW, I was thinking of ditching cable for TV before, and I'm really thinking of it now. I could very easily do Internet-only and watch games at the FNC or out (which is 75% of the time, anyway). I just don't suffer idiots well, and tonight, I dealt with three of them (at least one human, at least one virtual, and "Peter," who could be either).

*I realize that he might actually be twelve years old and in another country. If so, I'm even more angry.

EDIT: I know, #whitewhine. But still, I was trying to help them!

If you were doing all of this later at night, I have learned through dozens of experiences that these chat and phone people seem to not only be in a different country, but a completely different planet.

They never know what the hell is going on. They seem to be typing your questions/ statements into their version of google and regurgitating the top response, even if it makes no sense.

I have sent numerous emails to MSG about the shutdown. Zero responses thus far.

WGR reported this morning that there was a "pro MSG" flyer inside the free game program handed out last night. Not surprising that it sounds like the Sabres are on the side of MSG.

Not suprising, since the Sabres were using social media to metaphorically fellate MSG last year during the Dish dispute. Under Galisano it made sense, the organization would never have stuck its neck out in favor of the fans as opposed to the contractual provider of revenue in MSG.

I must say, while it's been reported that 1/3 of MSG's viewership came from TWC, I'd hazard a guess that a substantially greater percentage in the Sabres market have gone dark. I understand why the organization might not wish to publicly cause a ruckus (in fact doing the opposite, which is irksome) but if Ted Black is not furiously working on some sort of escape hatch / plan B, elaborate revenge I'll be ready to admit Pegula is becoming a disappointment...

A few of my thoughts

  • No one is loving this dispute more than Verizon - with them recently picking up MSG HD I'm guessing that a lot of TWC customers who were thinking of switching anyway are making the jump.
  • Both sides stink in this matter - MSG wants to bundle FUSE. I have no doubt that for MSG, MSG+ and FUSE MSG is asking for 53% more than TWC is paying now for MSG and MSG+. Time Warner doesn't want FUSE and they're not going to budge.
  • I do in the end think a deal will get done - there's too much at stake for both sides, but more so for TWC. Because there are other non-satellite options now available (FiOS, U-Verse) as well as DirecTV MSG isn't as tied to their relationship with TWC as they used to be. TWC stands to lose a lot of business in the end - FiOS is available in parts of Buffalo and the vast majority of Western NY is Satellite-friendly territory which makes DirecTV a viable option as well.
  • This isn't similar to the DISH standoff - I am confident there are far fewer people who had DISH than have TWC in the affected area.
  • DirecTV continues to be every cable companies worst nightmare because they're willing to go along with programming providers requests - that's the beauty of having a huge number of subscribers and a nation-wide base. DirecTV costs more than Dish Network but in many ways you pay for what you get - I have DirecTV and wouldn't trade it for anything. As an out-of-market sports fan there is no other way I can get every game in HD, Sabres feed for most, pre-game and post-game coverage, plus Syracuse basketball games except for DirecTV. Dish network is content to be the Kia of Satellite TV while DirecTV is the Lexus.

As Ted Black noted on WGR yesterday, MSG is one of their partners. He did, however, say that they told MSG that they are not the Sabres' most important partner; the fans are.

Time Warner is taking a significant amount of heat from subscribers. They are concerned and still negotiating. They have recieved far too many complaints from subscribers. and are already under competitive pressure from verizon's fios service and satalite providers. The revenue stream is priority one .They know they have to cut a deal.MSg also has to cut a deal because their little russian roulette venture has an impact on 1/3 of their total viewers. If time warner had any guts they would make the Sabres games broadcast as part of their NHL package ,available free in blacked out areas during the negotiations and tell MSG to sue if they had a problem with that.

Personally I don't even think TWC is that good. I have noticed on numerous occassions the past few months just how slow those stupid digital cable boxes are. Now it seems like it's a daily pain in the butt for me. It sucks because in upstate NY are options are limited. It's either TWC or dish or Direct TV. I wish we had the availability to Comcast.

True...old, old technology.. TW is dead when Verizon gets their fiber installed. They are killing tw in those areas where it is already in service.

OK, considering the switch to directv as there is no sign of a deal in the near future. Looking for some input.

What are the pros and cons of directv (besides access to MSG)?

How is the internet service through directv?

What does internet service cost a month through directv?

How can I get them to throw in center ice for the rest of the year?

any special unadvertised deals that will sweeten the pot?

Also, what's this about an extra discount with someone else's account number? Is it a bird dog fee?

I made the switch from Dish to TW after the MSG Dish contract issues - won't jump from TW to Direct for MSG.. I decided that I would rather pay hockeystream for a subscription and stream the games.

DirectTV doesn’t have internet – they use Verizon for DSL I did the DSL Dish combination when I left TW, DSL just doesn’t cut it for my needs. Depending how far away you are from your local central office will determine the quality of your DSL

You can just call them and tell them you are considering the jump and ask them to sweeten the pot (CenterIce)

You can get a $100 discount if you use someone else account when you join – it’s like a referral program for existing customers.

I dont have many cons as I havent had it very long. Free Sunday Ticket was awesome.

I still have Cox internet

Just tell them that you are considering the switch and ask if they can do that as incentive.

any special unadvertised deals that will sweeten the pot?

Not any that I know of. My roommate has had it for a while so when we moved intogether I called up acting like him complained about new customers gettng sunday ticket and ended up getting a great deal on it and HBO free for 6 months and like 10 dollars off a month but that was after i got moved to a customer retention specialist.

Also, what's this about an extra discount with someone else's account number? Is it a bird dog fee?

Yeah just a finders fee I am pretty sure. If you wanna give it to me PM me lol

I wish I could remember where online I saw it this past summer but i'm pretty sure I saw a thing that was offering DirectTV for like $35 a month. The Free Sunday Ticket this past summer was a sweet incentive. I hope they offer that again this summer for new custoners. My rents the other day were saying they pay over $200 a month for Crime Warner for the phone, digital cable and the internet. Part of that could be solved by ditching a house phone. But even so when you get one of those digital cable boxes and if you want to get one for another TV doesn't TWC charge you the same for each box and it's a hefty fee? I see DirectTV will install them to every TV in your house for just a few extra bucks.

I mean it's not even like Digital Cable is special anymore, i'm sure every cable provider has some form of it now. Maybe 10 years ago it was something special. The only thing on TWC that isn't on Stelite or DirectTV is TWCSN...big whoop.

What is the cost anyway for DirectTV a month? I bet it's less than TWC.
