Robyn Regehr, Kotalik and 2nd round pick (2012) to Sabres

For the record I mentioned Regehr a while ago. He is the exact type of playing I have been hoping for. I look at it more as the rest of you are joining me in 1st Class, being one the few that constantly stated that this team needed to get a lot tougher. Looks like the Sabres felt the same way. So, it is I who say welcome to you and others.

When have I ever (at least since Drury & Briere were here, and I don't recall stating that I wouldn't want them to be tougher back then either) said the team wouldn't be better served by getting tougher? I don't recall a whole lot of others that didn't want the team to get tougher either.

You know that wasn't what I was referring to either. But at any rate, welcome.

I'm ok sending him down, my concern is only on the way back up. It's not the cash, clearly that's not an issue anymore. The problem is that we'd eat a $1.5M effective cap hit for nothing. This is not worth the risk. Kassian and Foligno get the call before kotalik. One possibility is that pommers injury keeps him out till say, thanksgiving. If that's the case, ales goes down for good at the end of november to make room for pominvilles cap space when he comes off LTIR. I do believe kotalik is an attractive specialist at $1.5M to a team with a struggling power play, and I don't want to just give away more than a mil in cap space.

To summarize, down = ok, up = risky.

Not for nothing, for Robyn Regehr and a 2nd round pick.

He is truly scary at the point on the PP. I will give you that, but he is solid (probably 3rd best on the team) at the PK and reasonable when away from the opposing blue line at even strength.

I would not be surprised to see him back, though as most everyone else here, I would prefer him not back. I haven't heard anything about how he's recovering from the latest concussion; I would expect him to receive a clean bill of health prior to the Sabres signing him (if they do sign him) as the '06-'07 experience has to still be fresh in DR's memory.

Was that a confirmed concussion? I thought it was a shoulder injury.

Don't be too sure of that.....Gaustad will be tickled pink that Regehr cured pediatric cancer, houses stowaway Tibetan Monks, and is a swinger in the NHLPA. I think Gaustad is just the type of guy who would be smart/classy enough to give it to him.

But does he recycle?

hahaha... Kamloops....

You're makin' fun of my wife's birthplace there mister! :)

Kamloops, for those who care, is a short 2 hour drive (tops) from Kelowna. It is nowhere near as nice as Kelowna in terms of scenery but it's a nice little place to visit here and there.

And for the record, since nobody commented on this earlier, I tried coaxing Regher into asking to be dealt to Buffalo about 3 years ago at the store. He just laughed but his wife gave me the "you gotta' be joking" look. Guess the guy who makes the money has more say than the Mrs.

Is the Mrs. Regher a hottie???

I'm putting money on 24. He wore it in juniors with Kamloops and it's not taken on our roster.

A good guess. It's been available (other than maybe as a rookie's training camp number) since Pyatt Paul Byron left.

Fixed B-)

Feaster talks about trade:

http://video.flames....id=11&id=119835

Sounds like first deal was Regehr for Butler and Byron. DR wanted the pick, Feaster wanted Kotalik to get out. We took Kotalik off their hands for the pick.

Feaster sees Butler as 5th defenseman.

Interesting. From listening to that, the big part of that deal was Byron, who Feaster expects to play right away.

I think Byron could be a bit of a sleeper. He could be a nice player with regular ice time.

I think Byron could be a reasonable player, but he was waaaaay too much of what the Sabres already have. He was one of, if not my 1st choice for trading fodder.

I think Butler will be a solid D-man for a long time in the NHL. But I don't see him ever being more than a #4, and realisitically I'd hope that I'd have enough other guys around that he's my #5.

Calgary got what they wanted - cap space, but the Sabres won the trade.

I think that's exactly it. Ennis, Roy, Gerbe...no chance of any of those boys walking into a ceiling fan.

He's a bit of a tweener in terms of explosiveness or grit. I could see him being bottom pair every year for a long time. He really is a nice all-rounder. I think the in and out of the line-up stiffled his development and confidence. (And I don't think he was mishandled)

Feaster loves Tanguay. They are going nowhere.

Andy Strickland:

Butler Excited to be a Flame!

Told D-man Chris Butler is very excited to be moving on to Calgary. His role in Buffalo was strange to say the least when you consider he’d play 20 minutes one night and be out of the lineup the next. That will give you attention deficit disorder in a hurry.
