Not surprising. Lindy doesn't want to take a chance here. He may well wait until the Toronto home-&-home to test drive Ellis, or will UPL be ready by then?

UPL will go on a conditioning stint and that will likely be a few weeks minimum

Put Östlund on the third line with Zucker and Quinn.  Östlund is a playmaker and the other two can finish.

Then have Krebs play with Kozak and Dunne.   Dunne can actually play a 4th line role.

What is Geertsen playing for, to fight with Xhekaj or something?  smh

Lindy mixes lines so much this could still happen.

Connor Timmins has been good so far in stepping up to a top four role.  Far more minutes than anyone intended for him. He’s blocked more shots than anyone on the team and his on-ice expected goals number is very good. Can’t wait for Kess, but Timmins deserves praise.

Totally agree with you about the good play of Timmons. And it should be noted that Power and Samulesson (who has played less due to injuries) have also played well. And there is no question that Dahlin is our most indispensable player on this team. With respect to Byram, I haven't formed an opinion on him just yet.

Didn't Laine absolutely eat us alive the last time we played? Glad that he's out today, hope he has a speedy recovery otherwise.

StLouis has been playing Laine on their 4th line and their 2nd pp unit. He does not look good at all. I don’t think the injury will keep him out for long, but it is possible he is a healthy scratch soon unless he improves his game. Look out for another finn instead, Oliver Kapanen, he has been great this far. And of course Ivan Demidov is absolutely amazing.

After Bryson was hit by Gadovich play continued and Geertsen went out on the ice on a change

Both players did exchange words in warmups.

When the whistle blew who was the player that got into a scrum with Gadovich?

That’s right Josh Doan

So, we get the backup who has been doing well in the two games he played so far this year.

Per ChatGPT: Jakub Dobes, the Montreal Canadiens' goaltender, has faced the Buffalo Sabres once in his NHL career. In that game on March 1, 2025, Dobes secured a 4-2 road victory at KeyBank Center. He made 23 saves on 25 shots, maintaining a strong performance throughout the game. After allowing two goals in quick succession during the second period, Dobes shut out the Sabres for the remainder of the match, contributing to Montreal's fourth consecutive win

What if Arber Xhekaj gets frisky?

Then Geertsen either steps up or gets benched, never to wear a Sabres uniform again.

I hate myself for caving so quickly, but I'm reading this GDT and I'm watching the game tonight.

I have NP at all with Lindy dressing a designated fighter.  Of course it would be better if the team had enough guts and toughness throughout the roster to make it unnecessary, but they don't.  They've been mentally broken for some time now.  This is designed to address that.  It may not be effective, but I have no problem with trying to address it.

Who TF is Dunne?

Go Sabres.  Next stop, DeLuca .500.

I don't recall Gertsen doing a lot with Rempe. He did grab two FLA players at the same time for a few seconds. Xhekaj is a big tough customer. If he takes liberties with any Sabres players, this will be a test for Geertsen.

Geertsen talked with Rempe but they didn't go.

He invited Zadorov to dance, but Zadorav did not accept the challenge.

Play Dunne and you get more quality shifts, and although he gives up 30 lbs, he would not back down from Xhekaj.

Roster building is a mad science, obviously. What should work, doesn't and when what shouldn't work on paper does, everyone is like "of course". But every roster is different and has its own set of parameters to tweak. If the Sabres' roster the past two games worked, why mess with it unnecessarily?

Does this guy look like he thinks like your average hockey mind?

Pretty big week of in division games, Montreal and then Detroit and the the Leafs x2

have to have Geertsen or Dunne in tonight, cause Montreal lets Xjehai run around and you need a deterrent for him

No one is afraid of geertsen.

I refuse to be sucked in until the are in a playoff spot after the last day of November.

Really, a 2-3 start doesn’t sway you?

In seriousness it’s understandable. Personally I’ve realized I literally can’t be sucked back in until they make a change at GM. Too much baggage there.

I think they were actually close to being in a playoff spot at the mythic thanksgiving mark last year - started the day in a spot but by the time the thanksgiving games were completed we were actually in 9th.

Ruff should be fired over this entire stupid Geertsen thing. 2-4mins a night and can't even keep up with the play. He's a useless plug.

Right, except the team played bigger with him on the bench. You think that was just magic. It's not.

They need to play like they did in the last game every game. We shall see if they do, or if they drift back to their old bad habits. Montreal is a tough test with their speed and tenacity.

So you don't mess with a winning line up.

Now do the other games, they got their ***** caved in where he we also on the bench.

Concept of Kassian but worse because the guy doesn't even play. Also they literally have to change the lineup because Danforth and Bryson have gotten injured.

It is amazing the mental gymnastics some of y'all will go through to justify Geertsen when the real reason the Sabres won the last two games is literally other players.
