Kick the crisis can down the road.

Considering they didn't even have a framework of a new deal moving forward and the current lease runs out in 4 days, probably about the best we could've hoped for at this time.

Five years should be sufficient to finish the stadium, win a Super Bowl, and use the afterglow to ask for $600M of public funding in a massive arena renovation in the KBC structure. The Sabres can play at.... Penn St., an outdoor home game in Boston, etc., for the season while KBC in its biggest construction throes.

Why not Blue Cross Arena in Rochester?

Actually they might be able to play at KBC even during construction. They pulled it off in Cleveland with the Cavaliers when Quickin Loan Arena was being updated.

They could split some time with the Amerks, but it's called the Pegula Ice Arena (and though smaller, it's much newer). Pegula would love to do games there, especially games against Pitt/Wash/Philly where they could get an upscaled price and a full barn of visiting fans.

Why would Buffalo play their games 4 hours away when there's closer rinks nearby?

There's no reason for them to play games *anywhere* else.  The arena needs renovation, not reconstruction, and it will be fine if the work is done during successive summers--once it begins.  They're not going to play in a 6,000-person arena in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah... they can make reasonable accomodations on a multi-year renovation.  They don't exactly WANT to lose seats either.

Uh, define "lose seats."

One of the proposals they seemed VERY interested in back a few years was replacing a lot of the seats down along center ice in the 100's with tables that 3 or 4 could sit and and watch the game getting a full concierge experience.  Think the seats over by the bar on the 200 level behind / near the goal line that the Sabres defend twice.

Hoping they don't decide to do that, because that would result in a full reshuffling of where everybody that's put up with this team for the past 15 or so years (with many being there for much longer than that) ends up having their tix.
