That Aud Smell Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago I attended the event that the Golisano school hosted a while back -- was it last year? -- where he announced millions and millions of dollars in gifts to a variety of worthy nonprofits (including colleges and universities) from Western NY and the Finger Lakes region. And now a big ol' gift to Buffalo's Children's Hospital? All jokes aside: I have enormous respect for the guy. Most (damn near all) billionaires do not thusly deal with their money. I wish more did. 8 Quote
PASabreFan Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Elsewhere, TP announced he will purchase the hospital's beer league team, the C Diffs. 4 1 Quote

Night Train Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago Its the 4th Childrens hospital he donated 50 Mil to. Speaks for itself. 4 1 Quote
Taro T Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago 50/50 shot his latest philanthropic endeavor would be helping to support/expand/improve a children's hospital in a location he has ties to or a Canada goose eradication program. He probably chose wisely. 😉 In all seriousness, it's good that he does have worthy causes that he literally supports very generously. Darn shame that this area's manufacturing base has taken such a hit through the years as we could use many more billionaires like him with ties to the community. 1 Quote

This will be the third Children’s hospital he’s funded? I know Rochester and SW Florida already have Golisano’s Children Hospitals. Quote

You really can't calculate the generational good in helping kids and families with his generous charitable contribution. People with great wealth can spend their money the way they want. That's their prerogative. He's taken a portion of his wealth and put it to good use. It's a testament to his generosity. He's a self-made man who has given back. Whether he is personally liked or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that he should be respected for his good deeds. Quote
wingnut Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Good news. But how about Instead of depending upon billionaire philanthropy, we go back to a progressive tax like we used to. Quote

Wonderful deeds, agreed. I would argue the New Deal far exceeded anything philanthropy ever accomplished. Quote
