That Aud Smell Posted Tuesday at 05:17 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 05:17 PM I attended the event that the Golisano school hosted a while back -- was it last year? -- where he announced millions and millions of dollars in gifts to a variety of worthy nonprofits (including colleges and universities) from Western NY and the Finger Lakes region. And now a big ol' gift to Buffalo's Children's Hospital? All jokes aside: I have enormous respect for the guy. Most (damn near all) billionaires do not thusly deal with their money. I wish more did. 8 Quote
PASabreFan Posted Tuesday at 05:54 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 05:54 PM Elsewhere, TP announced he will purchase the hospital's beer league team, the C Diffs. 5 1 Quote

Taro T Posted Tuesday at 07:59 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:59 PM 50/50 shot his latest philanthropic endeavor would be helping to support/expand/improve a children's hospital in a location he has ties to or a Canada goose eradication program. He probably chose wisely. 😉 In all seriousness, it's good that he does have worthy causes that he literally supports very generously. Darn shame that this area's manufacturing base has taken such a hit through the years as we could use many more billionaires like him with ties to the community. 2 Quote

This will be the third Children’s hospital he’s funded? I know Rochester and SW Florida already have Golisano’s Children Hospitals. Quote

You really can't calculate the generational good in helping kids and families with his generous charitable contribution. People with great wealth can spend their money the way they want. That's their prerogative. He's taken a portion of his wealth and put it to good use. It's a testament to his generosity. He's a self-made man who has given back. Whether he is personally liked or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that he should be respected for his good deeds. 1 Quote
wingnut Posted Wednesday at 01:26 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 01:26 PM Good news. But how about Instead of depending upon billionaire philanthropy, we go back to a progressive tax like we used to. 1 Quote

\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted Wednesday at 05:18 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:18 PM All jokes aside, he is everything Americans want to be: He wasn't born into money. In his first job, he saw an underserved market (payroll and HR services for small companies) and suggested it to his bosses, who rejected it. He went out on his own and started it with $3000 of his own money. He set his company fees small enough so small companies could afford it, and has kept them reasonable over the years. He didn't turn a profit until five years had passed. His company is still considered a good company to work for. He dislikes both political parties and believes that government is in serious need of reform. He donates a lot of money to worthy causes and endeavors. 1 1 1 Quote
