Not sure if we do this...  but I like Kevyn is acknowledging we need help in goal...  I do not see a guy who averages 20 games a year that is post 30 as the guy that comes in and really moves the needle.... I do like his gaa is sub 3.00 (barely) I dont like this would be his 5th team... makes me wonder whats up... get him on a cheap contract great lets see what he does...  over pay like he is your starting goalie... I think that would be a pretty big gamble and speak poorly of the prospect of Levi's progression unless it is a short term 1 year maybe 2 year deal.  Either way, this to me is the type of typical signing we will see in FA... bodies that might or might not help minimally...

If Levi follows a Miller track, he'll be great in the AHL again this season and be in the NHL in 2026-27 at age 25. (Note: Miller couldn't be in the NHL in age 24 season because of lockout, but prior to that he was not good in the NHL, just as Levi's been a bit overwhelmed. Miller had a better team supporting him, though, obviously.)

Alex Lyon has never earned over $1M/year in the NHL. He's a backup who has been signed as a backup every time.

Adams doesn't pay goalies. And he doesn't give them term. The cap went up so it can't be the $750k special. Last year, Reimer got a 1x$1M.

Factor in the taxes and palm trees.

1 x $1.75M sound good? Can't block Levi in 2026.

Yeah well here he going to be a split starter, no way we get Lyon for less than $3 million IMO.

KA gave UPL five year deal tho.  His second biggest mistake as a GM.

I'm so out of touch with the contract numbers at this point, but that Vancouver goalie situation is odd to me.  I guess $13 million isn't crazy for a pair of goalies.  $4.5 million feels pretty pricey though for a backup.  And then they've got 4 years of that locked up (1 cheaper year for Demko until the extension kicks in).  I guess one gets moved at some point because I have a hard time seeing a full 4 years of that tandem.

That was an extension for a starter, but I've been talking about their 2nd goalie (which has been everyone except Ullmark & UPL [and ELC Levi] since Adams took over. The market price for 5 years for a starter was right where UPL got paid. It was easy negotiation.

Between 2022 and 2025, 9 goalies have signed for 5 years. They range from $4M AAV (Korpisalo) to $5.375M (Jarry). UPL is right in the middle.

 

(Was this the right move? That's our ongoing conversation forever. If the team defense vastly improves and UPL continues to improve from experience, it could still be fine. Maybe.)

Yep. I have now problem with the Demko contract, or the Lankinen money in a vacuum.

On the same team, with so many issues up front and not many options to fix it, it’s an odd choice.

I guess they felt their other options were making their team worse.

You watch a lot of 'Nucks games.  Is Lankinen worth trading for?  Or at least trying to trade for?

Would he be an upgrade over Lyon?

My only impression of his is that he absolutely sucked on a bad team in Chicago.  I'm not so sure a bad team should be adding a guy who struggles while playing on a bad team.  Shortsighted probably, but that's where I am right now.

More than any team beyond the Sabres, yes, yes and yes.

I’d take him over Luukkonen. Pretty sure he has no trade protection though.

But might he be willing to waive the NTC now that the 'Nucks have their current goalie locked up LT and their "goalie of the future" breathing down his neck?

Swap out UPL and whatever else it takes and take the small W.
