We are going to have to sign another goalie. No way we start the season trusting Hutton’s eyes

He’s got Ryan Millers 👀 s

As of 3:30pm EST today, 10/12/20, the Sabres numbers are as follows:

The salary cap for 2020-21 is $81.5M.

The current Sabres cap space, not counting minimum qualifying offers ($6.608M), is $13.646M.

The total NHL roster is currently: 12F, 9D, 2G.

Cap committed to NHL players under contract (10F, 8D, 1G), totaling $65.575M of salary (new contracts in bold):

  1. Eichel, $10M
  2. Skinner, $9M
  3. Hall, $8M
  4. Okposo, $6M
  5. Staal, $3.25M
  6. Eakin, $2.25M
  7. Girgensens, $2.2M
  8. Thompson, $1.4M
  9. Lazar, $0.8M
  10. Rieder, $0.7M ($43.6M for Fs)
  11. Ristolainen (RD), $5.4M
  12. Miller (RD), $3.875M
  13. Montour (RD), $3.85M
  14. McCabe (LD), $2.85M
  15. Dahlin (LD), $0.925M
  16. Jokiharju (RD), $0.925M
  17. Davidson (LD), $0.7M
  18. Irwin (RD), $0.7M ($19.225M for 3LDs and 5RDs)
  19. Hutton, $2.75M ($2.75M for Gs)

Buyout:

  1. Hodgson, $0.792M

Carryover Bonus Overages:

  1. $1.4875M

For RFAs and UFAs and non-rostered players, this leaves $81.5M - $65.575M - $0.792M - $1.4875= $13.646M

RFAs that have been qualified and not yet signed (2F, 1D, 1G) and previous salary, totaling $6.768M, and minimum qualifying offers, totaling $6.608M:

  1. Reinhart, $3.65M - min $3.75M
  2. Olofsson, $0.7675 - min $0.7M
  3. Pilut, $0.925M - min $0.8325M
  4. Ullmark, $1.325M - min $1.325M

Non-rostered players and NHL cap hit if rostered (doesn't include UFAs):

  1. Biro, $0.925M
  2. Ruotsalainen, $0.925M
  3. Cozens, $0.894M
  4. Asplund, $0.845M
  5. Murray, $0.775M
  6. Pekar, $0.764M
  7. Oglevie, $0.750M
  8. DiPietro $0.75M
  9. Dea, $0.7M
  10. CJ Smith, $0.7M
  11. Mittelstadt, QO - $0.8325
  12. Samualsson, $0.925M
  13. Bryson, $0.889M
  14. Borgen, $0.864M
  15. Fitzgerald, $0.858M
  16. Laaksonen, $0.853M
  17. UPL, $0.778

We have $13.646M to use, including signing RFAs.  Of the four minimum QOs sent, three filed for arbitration:

  1. Reinhart, $3.65M - min $3.75M
  2. Olofsson, $0.7675 - min $0.7M
  3. Pilut, $0.925M - min $0.8325M
  4. Ullmark, $1.325M - min $1.325M

Offer sheet Cirelli or Sergachev. When Tampa matches the one, offer sheet type other and they will be above max cap.

We lack a 2021 3rd, so probably no shot.

Estimating based on comparables and 3rd party projections (herehere, and here):

  1. Reinhart, $6.25-7.5M, best guess $6.5M
  2. Olofsson, $4-5M bridge, best guess $4.25M

Estimating based on flat-ass guessing:

  1. Linus Ullmark, $2M-2.5M, best guess $2.4M

Maths: $10.5M-$15M, best guesses $13.15M

Note: this leaves little room to sign anyone else, but still need upgrades at LD and, if possible, G.  We might try to move an RD, such as Miller ($3.875M) or Montour ($3.85M), for an ELC LD.

Can’t see any world where Olofsson signs a bridge for more than Kubalik.

He just got 3.7.

I'm down; that'd put us about a mil below cap.  The less these three sign for, the more shoulder room we have for D and G and trades and playoff rentals.

Ullmark is also getting more then 2.5.  Think closer to 3.0. Korpisalo is a great proxy for Ullmark and he got 2.8 for 2 years.

I'm guessing

Reinhart at about 5x6.5mil

Olofsson at 2x3.7mil; technically overpaid due to Kubalik having done more this year arguably.

Ullmark at 2x2.9mil

I think Reino is going to get a 1-year or 2-year deal.  I think they want a situation where they can extend Hall if both sides want to do so, and a fat contract for Reino would likely preclude them from doing so.

A two year deal walks him to UFA, he will be traded Summer 2021 if that’s the case.

I could see a deal with Seattle happening at that point

Yes -- if they keep Hall next Summer, they trade Reino, perhaps to Seattle.  If not, they've got Reino under contract for another year and perhaps extend him at that point.  In the meantime, a 2-year deal gives Reino more security than a 1-year deal.

Ugh Cody Hodgson 🤮

No worries.  He comes off the books in the 2023-2024 season.  Woof.
