Today is the last day that the Islanders can sign him for 8 years. At midnight they become, like every other team, only able to sign him for 7 years. I think that's right? There's no point in him walking away from an extra year on his deal that would be $12M+ when he's 35; he won't ever get that money in a single year again at that age.
