Crazy...Pittsburg gets Washington while NY Rangers get Ottawa...didn't both Pittsburg and Washington have more points then the Rangers yet the Rangers get rewarded by getting Ottawa? Strange friiggin' setup...one of the two top teams go for sure while two teams that had less points one is ensured of going through

Even though Bettman recently said there are no plans to change the playoff format, I'm sure it's bound to happen.  People want to see the best playing each other in the Conference and Stanley Cup Finals.  The round 2 match ups are unbalanced.  Could lead to lower ratings in round 3.  And if ratings become a regular problem, the NHL will make another change to the playoffs.  Use the kiss (keep it simple stupid) method.  Top seed should be playing lowest seed.

Not to put down the Rangers or Ottawa who are both pretty good teams, but clearly something is wrong when you have the two top teams playing before the conference final while two lower teams are playing, well...

some other thoughts from Round One:

If Carey Price don't win Montreal the game, no one on that team sure as hell is

What's so different about this years hawk team from the Cup winners?

If the Leafs had OReilly, Risto and Guhle (who they woul dbe playing now trust me) they may have won the series

Is Nashville THAT good?

Is St. Louis that good or is Minnesota just a strange team with a bunch of veterans who are great during the regular season but then can't keep up when the pace picks up come playoff time

While we lament over and over if GMTM sorry, EXGMTM paid too much for Lerner (a first rounder, 21st overall), the Leafs gave two picks, a 1st rounder too (30th overall) and a 2nd round pick for Anderson. Anderson played great, but Lerner seems to be capable too and the trade doesn;t seem so bad or that EXGMTM gave too much

Didn't think the Oil could win easily with McDavid only getting only 1 goal (2 actually but a empty-netter late in game 6) and only 4 points total...makes one wonder how he and the Oil will do versus Anaheim

Was Boston really trying to give Ottawa the game yesterday? really, THREE delay of game penalties for shooting the puck over the glass in a row in the 1st period? Strange Ottawa did not score on any of the power plays, but Boston immediately scored on their 1st power play after killing off the 3 in a row penalties

Being a Sabre fan I really did not pay much attention to the "new" way the NHL decide who plays whom, but let me tell you, it is pathetic! Really, the Pens and the Caps are playing now when that clearly should be the conference final...

being a Sabre fan I forgot just how exciting and crazy playoff hockey is...boy what I'd give for someone, anyone to come in and turn this around and do whatever it takes to make our beloved Sabres a, wait for it...PLAYOFF TEAM!!!!

It's not that Nashville is that good (though they are very good of course) it's that Rinne is. Chicago couldn't score against him 5v5. Only one goal at even strength in four games.

Dealing with these two:

1. The good players are all getting older, the interchangeable bottom half of the roster didn't get it done this time.

2. St. Louis may be the luckiest team in the history of lucky teams coming out of that series.  Minnesota was the better team everywhere but the scoreboard in every game.  Which gets you knocked out in the first round because you still lost four times, but still.
