GDT Sabres at Arizona 3/30/15 10pm MSG WGR

With so few games left, there's a big range of potential outcomes from tonight.  Best case, Edmonton would be virtually eliminated from 30th (Sabres would have to go 6-0-0 and the Oilers 0-6-0 due to the tie-breakers, in which case they Sabres would almost certainly finish in 28th) and Arizona would be up 8 (minus the game-in-hand) with six games left.  With the ROW tie-breaker, the Sabres would be able to go 4-2-0, 3-1-2 or 2-0-4 and still clinch even if Arizona loses out.  Worst case, the Oilers get back within 7 and the 'Yotes would be within 4 (minus the game-in-hand), meaning things would come right down to the wire.  It would be down to 2-4-0, 1-3-2 or 0-2-4 in their last six to clinch with Arizona losing out and the Coyotes could reach the 30th spot in the teams' 79th games (they could be tied on points after the 78th, but Arizona would have more ROWs.)

The Sabres still face Toronto (checked out), Islanders (not playing well), Blackhawks (trap game for them?), Carolina (not great), Blue Jackets (hot lately, but not great for the season) and the Peguins (will they be playing for anything or looking forward to the first round?)  Arizona's opponents are a little tougher: Sharks (home-and-home), Flames, Canucks and Ducks.

Team from Pittsburgh comes into town on the last day of the season and lies down for us? Nah...

So basically you dismiss Chicago and Pittsburgh but then state Arizona's opponents without any potential excuses there. Will the Ducks be playing for anything? The Sharks have been inconsistent all season. The Flames are fighting for their playoff lives -- trap game? The Nucks have been up and down since their starting goalie went down.

No games are locks anymore. We'll just have to wait and see.

If Arizona wins in regulation it's basically over. While in the purely probabilistic sense it could happen, the chances we could grab 9/12 available points the rest of the way is so remote I'm comfortable saying we secure 30th with a regulation loss.

Yeap. We could go 4-2 the rest of the way and still clinch if we lose in regulation tonight.

Just trying to be as conservative as possible about our chances.  Of course, they have excuses, too.

Insurance policy?  If the Sabres start winning, have Lindback fake an injury.

And if no clear loser emerges, a two man potato sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a loser is crowned.

Oh no you don't!

Then what happens if the Sabres potato sackers fall mid race, do we cheer, boo, remain quiet!

This has got to end!

Lindback starting. Doesn't look like Ennis is available.

Not that I think it is a huge issue, but with Hackett's injury and the remaining number of games, we are getting pretty close to the threshold of losing his RFA rights. It may be more and more likely that Hackett's time as a Sabre is coming to an end.

Warning: Sacrilege

"Great moments are born from great opportunity...and that's what they have here tonight, boys.

That's what they've earned here tonight. One game; if they played us ten times, we might win nine. But not this game, not tonight. Tonight, they skate with us. Tonight they stay with us, and they shut us down because they can. Tonight, they are the greatest hockey team in the world.

They were born to be hockey players—every one of them, and they were meant to be here tonight. This is their time. Your time is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a bad hockey team the Coyotes have. Screw 'em. This is their time. Now go out there and give it!"
