Nope, cap hit is cap hit. total money/years. What you might be thinking is cap recapture, which involves contracts that end after the player is 35 and are front loaded (more money early). In that case, if the player retires before the end of the contract, the team that gained the benefit (paid more than the cap hit) in penalized.

No I was thinking NFL style contracts that are front loaded with lots of unlilely to be hit bonuses and if a player is cut early then the remaining cap hit is absorbed immediately, or in the case of a trade the remaining bonus money is the only money that is accelerated

Obviously the NHL cap is a much different beast...

Yep. Performance bonuses only available on entry & elderly (over 35) deals. They were also allowed under old deal for players coming off major injury; expect that exception is still there, but not positive.

Get a real avatar and learn to think for yourself.

Sorry, the porn king of 70s is taken

Again, what makes you more qualified to opine on Moulson's leadership?

Is it the same set of knowledge that makes you think that he plays a soft game? Or that goals & points don't matter to a hockey team?

We are still short a veteran defenseman... who do we have a shot of signing? (or perhaps we acquire one via trade)

People laughed when I mention Chris Butler. He would be a decent short term, I'll repeat, short term solution. If veteran defensive depth is a concern, Butler is a cheap viable solution.

We definitely have to sign someone. We only have Myers, Gorges, Weber, Risto, and Pysyk as of now. I assume McCabe starts the year in Rochester. We need someone for a couple of years. Butler I guess would fit that profile.
