Bring back Drury.

Snag Briere away from the cap strapped Flyers.

Acquire a top 4 UFA dman this summer.

Bring on the cup finals in 2012.

Watch all the dmen get injured in the first few rounds.

Bow out in the conference final.

If Drury has knee problems I don't want him. No one ever fully recovers from knee injuries.

If he's healthy though, I'd take him. Mainly because he was my favorite player during his time here, so I still have a man crush.

I'd like him to retire as a Sabre.

I think we should offer him a sweet 4 or 5 year multi-million dollar deal and then, just before he signs the deal say to him. " Wait a second, are you the same Chris Drury who turned his back and walked out on us a few years ago? I don't think we need your kind on this team. Thank you very much. You will now be escorted out of the building."

I'm interested to know. Whatcha got?

Excessive weight lifting early in their career. They have a strength and conditioning coach known for that stuff. It's fun to think about, but in reality, they're just a pair of old guys.

Really it is pretty unbelievable the amount of pounding a body must take in a full season of NHL hockey.

They are getting up there. It is curious that both have knee problems. Both that's gotta be due to a lot of wear and tear.

Sure, bring back Drury ... and while we're at it, talk Hasek into a comeback and trade Miller. C'mon, does anyone really think

that Drury has anything left and can stay healthy for a season. I don't ...

Now you're on to something! Trade Enroth along with our first rounder and Sekera or Butler for a #1 center or scoring winger, sign Hasek to back-up Miller for 25 games, and sign Chris Drury to be interchangeable with Goose on the third/fourth line pivot.

Why is there always this temptation from so many fans to re-live "the good ol' days" and recycle these ex-Sabres? Drury was a great leader, but he left 4 years ago. Isn't it time to look to the future instead of hoping to recapture what once was. Should we see if Hasek and Peca want to come back? It'd be just like the '99 Cup run all over again -- how sweet! while we're at it, could Rob Ray be talked into putting down his mic and lacing up his skates? Let's go after Roloson this offseason! Or maybe we could trade for Lydman or Tallinder?

How about this instead? We trade away as many young players, prospects, and draft picks as it takes to land bona fide top-flight talent. It'd be nice if our 1st line guys actually had 1st line talent and our 2nd line guys actually deserved to play on the 2nd line. Or... we can get misty-eyed about the past while waiting around hoping that Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford become playoff studs, and dreaming that Zach Kassian and Marcus Foligno are the second coming of Cam Neely and Keith Tkachuk.

Hopefully, the Sabres will do something this offseason to make us forget about four years ago, because they have done much (other than drafting Myers) in the time since.

For the record, nobody was suggesting Drury as a first-line center, but rather as a third/fourth-line center, and most were suggesting it in addition to going out and landing some 1st line talent.

The way I see it, its Brooks Laich for some depth at likely 3.5-4 mill a season, or a wild card pick up in Drury (and hopefully on the cheap with an incentive based contract).

With his history in Buffalo and his stellar play at the Olympics for the US, I'll take a cheap Drury and use our money more wisely to acquire first line talent or a top 4 dman.

Laich is not worth 3.5-4 mil a season... people here were DISTRAUGHT over Stafford getting $4 mil, and bitched INCESSANTLY over Connolly @ $4.5... both players are better than Laich, and at least when Connolly was given his contract he had first-line potential. $4 mil would be steep for a 3rd/4th line center.

Because that's what the Rangers would do.

Tell me why there's a persistently delusional opinion by Sabre contrarians that automatically presumes that there's some other franchise out there willing to part with franchise talent in exchange for some amount of players/prospects/picks that would simultanously solve all problems without causing other problems and wouldn't undoubtedly call for more player acquisitions by the same magic unicorn method or Regier's head on a stick.

Also, tell me Phil Kessel's worth a 2nd overall pick (Seguin), a 32nd overall pick (Knight), and a 9th overall pick, in addition to his $6M salary.

Or tell me that Chris Drury, once almost a 40 goal scorer, was worth a $7M for his Rangers-career-high 25 goals. What other free agent signings/trades couldn't the Rangers pursue until they bought out this contract?

How about the Islanders acquisition of Yashin from Ottawa for Chara and a 2nd overall pick (Spezza)? Tell me that wasn't one of the worst franchise-level acquisitions of all time.

That's what happens in this league when you _____ as many _____ as you think it takes to ______. Fickle extremism F's teams into corners and they end up with perpetual, laughable suckitude. Yes, there are trades and acquisitions that work, but they're very rarely at the franchise-talent level; Hossa seems to be a recent fluke exception, Joe Thornton and (duh) Gretzky also come to mind. People wonder where the Sabres would be now if we had let Vanek go to Edmonton for their four 1st round draft picks.

Worth is relative. In a poor UFA market I'm betting he gets rewarded in this market.

I'm betting he gets 4.5 x 4.

Just a guess.

Your talking Brooks Laich right? I think 4 would be high for him. Hes a grinder and although the NHL has seen the rise of them, 3-3.25 is there general going right. I hear what you are saying though that the prices this summer might be outrageous. If they are how many of us are willing to sit on this team with maybe only 1 or two additions heading into next season and be ok with it? Drury, Laich, Ehrhoff/Bieksa are all players you could get but you would have to be aggressive. Don't wait until 3pm on july first to do it. At 9:20 if Laich is being offered 3 by the interested parties you go, heres 3.5 for 4 years lets get this done and there ya go. You bicker over it until 3pm you loose him to someone else for 3.5. Darcy seems willing to set some prices this year and be more aggressive than past years. Stafford getting signed for reasonable money almost 4 weeks before he became is a RFA is a sign that times are a changin.

Laich is probably the most complete player on the Washington team. He's easily worth 3.5 million...and will probably get 1 million over that if he goes to market.

So I'm guessing 4.5.

Stafford went 4x4 without the benefit of free agency and Laich has similar numbers and a better +/-, plus he is a center in a weak center market....... If he'd come to Buffalo for $4.5M I'd take that deal. We need the centers.

Sporting news thinks Laich might be the 2nd best UFA forward available. (it's that thin out there folks...)

4.5? I'd do it. It is slightly overpaying...but it also scrambles Washington's lines and special team..which might be worth the extra $500,000 in itself ;)
