Okay....my take....

Kaberle's good.

But I think you have to look at the asking price; not only is he over 4 million against the cap but

Burke wanted Phil Kessle and a top 10 draft pick coming back.

Burke doesn't need to be in a hurry.....so this would probably mean the Sabres best scoring RW (Pomminstein)

plus 2 years of number 1 picks going out just to begin the discussion....and on top of that Darcy would still need

to clear roster space. He would definetly improve the Buffalo's scoring from the blue line, but

this still wouldn't add leadership or grit on the backend.

Yeh know that you look at it it would be too much for us to spare. I was wondering whats your take on signing koivu for more of a leader ship and to replace hecht in the 3rd or 2nd center.

While Koivu wouldn't help much with the Sabres' size/physical shortcomings, it would be nice to have a third true scoring-line center on the team. However, the fact that he still hasn't been signed tells me that he is looking for more money than his production is worth, even with whatever "intangibles" he may possess.

Yeh he probably does want more money but he's past his prime when will he accept that.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but the Ducks re-signed Todd Marchant for two more years (financial terms not released.)

Also, in case people missed my update in the Pronger thread, he has signed a seven year, $35 million extension with the Flyers.

I would love to have Saku. He'd instantly give Buffalo a formidable 3 lines.

I'm not sure he's the guy you want to count on to play more than 60 games, but when he's in the lineup, any team

in the NHL would be better. His locker room really fell apart when he was wearing the C in Montreal, but I still see him as a leader. (I think Bob Gainey is really punishing him for that team giving up on Guy Carbonneau - which is really an under reported-story...Montreal should have been competing for the cup this year).

But Koivu can pretty much dictate his terms, Anaheim to play the last year with his buddy Teemu Selane or

Minneapolis to play with Mikko his brother.

How about coming to Buffalo to play with his buddy Craig Rivet? Apparently, these two are good friends as well. I'd like Koivu in Buffalo.

It looks like Sakic is going to retire, so the rebuilding mode officially has begun in Colorado. Will they dump some more salaries such as Hejduk, Liles, and Hannan? I don't think Hejduk leaves, but I could see Liles or Hannan leaving. Let's see if Darcy can swing a deal with Colorado that will improve the Sabres. How about Stafford and Tallinder for Svatos and Liles? They aren't very high on Svatos out in Colorado and we aren't very high on Tallinder. It's one of those trades where each team gains in my opinion and a change of scenery for everyone is in order. The more I think about it, it's actually a pretty even trade. Colorado gets a younger at forward with a guy who has proven to be more durable than Svatos and Buffalo gets a younger player in his prime to replace Spacek's offense from the blueline. This is a trade that actually makes so much sense that it will never happen.

He probably has that little rubber change thing that when you squeeze it it opens up so you can pluck change from it. I hate those things. <_<

haha Haven't thought of that for years. Mother always had us carry satchels.

I've decided that we need to sign Kurtis Foster. Why? Well ...

1) 6'5", 218 lbs

2) Right handed

3) Power play specialist

4) Cheap

and the kicker ...

5) He's from Carp, Ontario

(OK, really, I know nothing about the guy. Looks like he's been a #7 defenseman for the Wild and had some big injuries over the last two years. So, I'm not actually advocating signing him; just couldn't pass up pointing out his home town.)

Lacks coordination in the skating department. Needs to make better use his 6-5 frame. Makes too many mistakes in his own zone.

Detroit's RFA Jiri Hudler agreed to a contract with Dynamo Moscow.

What's your read on this? Why would he leave a powerhouse like Det to go to Russia? They were in negotiations w/ him. Maybe its Michigans standard of living?

It's probably a leveraging tactic in his negotations with Detroit.

Koivu to Ducks for 1 yr, $3.25 million. To continue the trend started in a previous post: Hmmm, less than Hecht.

Edit: the "previous post" was actual from a similar thread on another board. In response to Havlat's contract, a poster said "Hmmm, less than Pominville."
