On a related note and a huge pet peeve of mine(and I have probably complained about it before😂)…if there is any sort of vehicle pulled over blocking part of your lane, it doesn’t mean you have free reign to cross the double yellow into oncoming traffic. 😡 1 Quote

And the funny part about that is the mower was on the slope of a ditch and the physics of actually kicking a rock up into the road would be mind blowing. 12 minutes ago, LabattBlue said: On a related note and a huge pet peeve of mine(and I have probably complained about it before😂)…if there is any sort of vehicle pulled over blocking part of your lane, it doesn’t mean you have free reign to cross the double yellow into oncoming traffic. 😡 Yeah, that’s a big one. I’ve never understood why people will give a bigger buffer to a parked car than they will to the moving one. I get that people don’t have a good feel for exactly where the right side of their vehicle is, but that still should lead to crossing the yellow line with a car right there. Quote

mjd1001 Posted October 9 Report Posted October 9 speaking of drivers, this has always been something bothering me but seems to happen more and more... I park across the street, and then get out of my car and walk across the street to the store I am going to. I am the person who parks across the street from the store, or in the way back of the parking lot and do the walking. There often seems to be drivers, speeding down the street I want to cross. Doesn't matter that they are going 10 or 15 over the speedlimit. Doesn't matter they didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign or didn't stop when making the right on red. Doesn't matter that I have the right of way, IN the crosswalk. None of that matters. If they want to drive 45mph down a street after a rolling stop and I am ANYWHERE near them in the crosswalk, I get the horn and an obscene gesture from them. How dare I be a pedestrian walking across the street in a crosswalk and inconveneice their normal (illegal) driving patterns. Quote

They had a young employee give us old people an orientation on the car, all of the high tech bells and whistles. They had a kid was very pleasant and trying hard but wasn’t very familiar with the model. She was fumbling through stuff and we honestly could have done the same. Employee turnover is crazy at these places. Quote

I was outside a couple days ago around 5:30 a.m. And we had a little frost on our yard. To me that's not a complaint though, that's a positive. I'd much rather deal with 20° and 30° mornings then deal with the heat that we had this summer. Give me a cool day, give me a little snow in the winter. Honestly, I'd rather have a cloudy day than a bright Sunshine Day. Quote

mjd1001 Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago I'd say the way people drive, but its more about just how people don't think rules/laws apply to them. On the way home yesterday, and in the course of about 5 minutes two seperate incidents happened. I get to a 4 way intersection (suburban/country road), I'm ready to go through when a guy in a Miata comes up to the intersection on the road to the right. I got there first so I go first. This guy was going so fast approaching the stop sign I could swear he almost wasn't going to stop at the stop sign. He turns behind me and tailgates me so bad I can't even see the front of his car. The moment there was an opening, he passed across the double yellow line, taking off going probably 60-70 mph (in a 40mph road). He gets to the car in front of us about 1/4 mile up, and looks to tailgate where he can't be more than a few feet behind, and passes the same way (this is a twisting/turning road where there are 'no passing' signs even). You could tell when he passed he was turning the wheel abruptly, when completing the pass cutting me (and the other person) off right at the front fender, no turn signals either. Not even 5 minutes later, the first guy is LONG gone, and I come to another intersection. I arrive the same time as another person (wasn't able to see if it was a guy or a girl...it had dead-black tinted windows) in a farily modern corvette. I was there first so I turned right, this person never came to a stop and wanted to go right through the intersection (coming from the left) and was on the horn the entire way becasue they just wanted to blow through the intersection and how dare I get there first. With them, a brief bit of tailgating and then it was another illegal pass across double yellow lines, within 15 seconds they were so far ahead of me I couldnt see them. It was a country road, but they had to be approaching 80-90 mph or more. (speed limit was 45, it turned to 55 just past the intersection). Driving like this happens more and more, it just...how do people drive like that breaking driving rules and law after law after law with no care or regard? Quote

That intersection stuff you mention is becoming more common. I am looked at as an obstacle instead of someone sharing the road. Quote

We've built an entire society predicated on the idea that anything that interferes with what "I" want or that inconveniences "me" is bad. Basically I think my answer is selfishness is why they don't care. We're an un empathetic "me first" culture. But I'm also grumble today so take it with a grain of salt. 1 Quote

I really don’t think it is more common than it used to be, and if I am being honest with myself, I was one of those menaces through much of my 20s. I spent most of the last 25 yrs commuting 45 min+ on rural roads. I saw what you described frequently. Multiple times Ive had to take evasive action with all 4 wheels on a soft shoulder to avoid a head on collision on a 2 lane 55mph road because someone in too much of a hurry decided to make a pass near a curve, or on a hill. And in my dumber days Ive been the cause of someone else taking evasive action. Not proud of it, but I was that guy sometimes too. We are all guilty at times of being in our own world, concerned only with what’s directly in front of us. Late for work, or rushing to a commitment, or responding to something in our personal life. And sometimes we are just over aggressive *****. Thankfully the vast majority of us grow out of it, or just plain stop being in a big damn hurry. 1 Quote
EM88 Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago The 'rule of law' thing, especially when driving, is somewhat irritating. A week ago I was on the New York state thruway heading eastbound while driving to Albany and came to a construction site. It was early in the morning so there was not anyone working yet, but the road was narrower, barriers were up and the speed limit lowered to 55 in the work site. I was in the right lane slowing down to 55. I was probably still going 60 at the time when 3 people passed me on the left. 2 pickup trucks followed by an SUV. I would estimate they were all going well over 80 mph entering that work zone. As someone above mentioned it is not just about the speeding. It is that people simply will do what they want, when they want. Rules, laws, the rights or safety of others be damned. 1 Quote

Driving like this happens more and more, it just...how do people drive like that breaking driving rules and law after law after law with no care or regard? Personally, try to give them the benefit of the doubt and when it's obvious they're going to be in way more of a hurry than this kid, try to wave them through the interesection. (And then get ticked when they DON'T end up driving like maniacs but rather driving right at or below the speed limit.) Why give them the benefit of the doubt? Because a long time ago in a place far away had to drive about an hout to get back home once and about 15 minutes into the trip started to have an allergic reaction. Started driving way too fast on a multilane highway to get to the hospital (had no idea where or even if there was one near where the reaction started but knew where one was 30 or so miles down the road) and had idiots that were upset seeing this car flying down the highway and they'd pull out in front to force weaving down that highway to get to the hospital. Reason for flying was twofold, getting to the hospital quicker, and hoping to get pulled over so a cop could get me there with his lights on and flying even faster. Never saw a cop that trip, but when finally got to the emergency room the person at the attendant's desk was quite blase until she looked up; after that she and the rest of the staff started moving much quicker. So, tend to try to believe they are having some sort of emergency situation they're dealing with, even though it's far more likely they're young and driving the way @Weave says he did when he was young or yours truly did back then too. It's not likely they are dealing with an emergency, but on that 2% of the time they are, maybe getting over and helping them pass ends up saving a life (besides my own). Quote
shrader Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago I have this spot I drive daily where people coming from a side street have to turn right onto my road and then make an immediate left. Every damn day someone pulls out directly in front of me so that they can then stop for that left. There's no one behind me, just wait. But yeah, they have to get home 5 seconds earlier so it's worth risking the accident. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted 43 minutes ago Report Posted 43 minutes ago The arena didn't let me bring my Tim Hortons coffee into the last game. I get that usually outside food isn't allowed but for many years, bottled water and Tim's coffees/drinks were allowed because they were Mayne a partner or something. So as usual, we got downtown early, stopped for coffee at the one next to the old 716 restaurant and then proceeded to the arena. Got my Italian sausage from the vendor outside and stood for a few and ate it. Then walked into the arena with my Tim's coffee still hot and delicious. Was stopped before the new security and had to stand outside to finish it. Not sure if partnership ended or if it's a new money grab, but it was frustrating as foe years now I've had no issues and it was accepted. Quote

I was a serial tailgater in my younger days like @Weave. It's dangerous and unnecessary. I will admit I'll speed up and ensure the driver that just passed me is aware I'm right behind them without getting too close. This usually causes some concern on their part as I look like a criminal (if the shoe fits). Quote
