As I'll admit think Power is the poster child (next to Cozens) of guys who got paid way to early in their careers and have hurt this team more than helped. Really? If that’s all we can get for Power then it’s a hard pass. He might not be there yet, but he has immense potential. He’d be our top guy if we didn’t have Dahlin. Quote

He’s a very gifted offensive defenseman that teams would give up a lot for. A team needing a PP QB and number one dman. He can step in immediately and provide that to any team needing one. He may go to another team and be on PP1, but in no way is any other team using him as a minute eating go to top pairing dman. 2 1 Quote

In our own zone and in transition. So were byrum and samuelson. 3 of the 6 dman were really bad. Pinned in our own zone so much due to it. Quote
SabreFinn Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago Don't think we should trade him before we've seen how he plays with Kesselring. He or Byram is the player that should bring us a tenacious forward. Sad thing is that Matthew Schaefer probably already is better than him. Quote

I don't think Power is going to change his style enough and I think a 40-50pt defender of his size will have a lot of value around the league. If we move on, it hurts the defense but we could get a haul for him that might save the season. Is this premature? I don't think so but I think there will be a lot of varied opinions here. Should have been done this summer. Byram is the better player and should be anchoring the 2nd pair. We could probably get 3 pieces for him, maybe a stay at home D to pair with Byram or Dahlin, a Doan type young player and a 1st. (Basically the JJP trade with a 1st except a more proven D than Kesselring). 1 Quote

I don’t think moving him now, if we get a decent D back, hurts the defense at all since Power is inept in the D zone. Byram made Power expendable and Mtrka will likely made Byram expendable. This whole plan of 6 fast puck moving D was a joke the day it was formulated. We need guys who can actually play defense. Maybe Kesselring is one of the those guys. I hope he is. 1 Quote

To me its probable that the new GM is Jarmo. The reason he is on the payroll now is so he can be closer to the team and is alread starting his roster evaluation. Quote

I just don't see it with Byram. What I see in him is a player with above average to very good raw skill, but he only executes it to an average-to-slightly above average level. I equate him to the defense version of what Cozens is/was at forward. Lots of skill...looks good doing it...but the execution just isn't there. I just put Bryam a bit higher than Cozens because he doesn't kill you with as many boneheaded plays. But overall for me he's still in the "looks like a Ferrari, Drives like a Camry" category. 2 Quote
matter2003 Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago (edited) what are you getting for him? Regardless of what you think of him defensively, you would be losing an elite puck moving defensemen who has repeatedly been among the best in the NHL at generating transition offense from his own zone with stretch passes thru the neutral zone setting up counters and odd man rushes going back to his rookie season. Makes even less sense if KA is executing the transaction. It would be like going back to the same inept surgeon who botched your surgery. 2 hours ago, #freejame said: Power looked lost multiple times last night. So did Tuck and Tage. Quote
Thorny Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago Too young, too talented, too surrounded by ineptitude, too many games that look like this: seen it too many times before, I have. I wouldn’t trade him. Nor would I allow a flailing management group to do so. Seller beware. Ymmv 1 Quote

I'm starting to lean towards trading because I think his value is going to quickly depreciate as the luster of being the number 1 overall pick wears off. Reinhart was a ghost well into his 4th post draft season. Clock turned for him January 1, 2018. Power isn’t even there yet and he’s a d-man with a longer dev curve 1 Quote

Even if another GM believes he can polish a turd into a diamond, he’s not going to pay much when Power is at his lowest value. Maybe we get a top 6 forward, but in reality we’d get a bunch of spare part cap dumps. This is a good point. Sell low? No thanks Quote
pi2000 Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago If you trade Power, you might as well begin the tear down.... Dahlin, Byram, Thompson, Tuch, Benson.... all on the table. Fire everybody and start over with competent management who can build a roster correctly. It sucks, but this team is nowhere near challenging for a playoff spot, nor is there a clear path to do so. This team is a joke. At their best they rely on all-world goaltending to keep them in games. At their worst, they're not even competitive at the NHL level. The fact they're a cap team with < $1m is space absolutely astounding. 1 2 1 Quote

He , as always , refused to battle along the boards on multiple occasions. Turn overs and poor entry at attack blue line as well. I counted at least three times in our own zone he was to the puck first and came away with nothing but looking at a Canadien backside with the puck. No fight in his bones! 1 Quote

I'd take a rock solid veteran defender and a forward prospect thrown in. This would improve the team immediately. They have too many offensive defensemen and Power is truly "offensive". I'd really like to know Lindy's opinion of Power and his potential to FIT the team need. Quote

We actually agree on something here. At this time a lot of teams will buy a narrative that Power still has a high ceiling. A few might not like the contract but he'd get some big time interest. We do need more Doan Benson types and Power should be able to get you a mid level D man to take his spot plus a guy with some truculence plus some picks. First rounders for this deep McKenna draft will be hard to come by but down the road picks for sure. I wanted Byram traded but since they didn't, I still believe one of them traded could make the team better. Kesselring also hasn't played yet. We already have another D man. Could Power haunt us down the road like Eichel or Reinhart etc.? Sure, but if we are winning who cares what he does somewhere else? Quote
Weave Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago So, what does the D look like without Power? Dahlin - Kesselring Byram Timmins Sammy - who is the next RHD on the depth chart? I might be able to tolerate this. Would the game results be demonstrably different? Could we get a legit 2C for Power straight up? Who has a 2C to move? Quote
