We have hours still, but now I'll wonder if Ruff dresses 7 defensemen tonight. Or Bryson isn't in the lineup, only for Power/Muel to exit the game after two shifts and then play the remainder of the game with Dahlin being the only guy ever on the ice.

My point was that this is a highly competitive league and most teams make moves to improve year over year.   

Montreal and Ottawa got in last year.   Washington had a big rebound year.   I look at Boston, they missed the playoffs and wrote their fans a letter saying they were just as disappointed and they were still committed to winning - they have a big rebuild ahead.  I look at St Louis, they missed the playoffs and replaced their coach mid season and somehow snuck into the playoffs and almost won the first round.  

The Buffalo Sabres?  We are going to see if their moves improved the team, its a along season.    

I'm down on the Sabres too, but Buffalo made moves. 

Kesselring,  Norris, Doan, Danforth,  Timmins, Lyons, Ellis are all new. 

My point is that you're right,  we will see. I just wish they had changed the coaching because that the biggest flaw.

I fear the recent barrage of optimistic analytic models have gotten through to me. Sucks to see the biggest offseason addition out for game 1, but here’s to hoping they let the optimism live on. Go Sabres!

And I am actually excited to see what happens.   

Norris for Cozens could be a good move if Norris stays in the line-up.  A healthy Norris is a better player than Cozens.  

Kesselring & Doan for JJP - we shall see, it could be a good trade. 

Lyons - I can hope 

Danforth/Timmins - ok, this could be improving the edges

Ellis - I can wish for Binnington II,  but I will take solid and steady.   If he is good he could be a blocker to Levi, and yet Adams made the move, or maybe Jarmo made the move?

I'm annoyed that we're playing a team who already has opening night jitters off the table. The Rangers lost to the Pens 3-0 opening night, (2 empty netters), so I think they're going to come out with a chip on their shoulder, ready to go. 

I can already hear Ruff's excuse of "we were still getting our legs under us while they were in game shape from the get go. We got down in a 3-0 hole and couldn't recover (5-2 loss after an empty netter)"

Anyways, Go Sabres!

Neither is Mike Grier's actual brother.  He's pretty bad at the job too.  Interesting how little success Mike's 2 "brothers" have had as GMs.  Mike hasn't had any success yet either, but he's set himself up to have a big off-season next year.  Expect he'll be successful way before either Chris gets it figured out.

Flip side of that is, the Rags could be gripping the sticks rather tightly should the Sabres get through the 1st 5 or 6 minutes without giving one up.

As you well know, except for the few elite goalies, predicting how a goalie is going to perform is a bad bet unless you have money to lose. What makes it even more challenging is that past performance isn’t always a good guide. The best way to help your goalie is to provide him with strong support in front of him.

He has suggested sending Benson to Rochester to help him gain confidence and skill in scoring. He's backed off that stance a little since preseason.
