What’s more telling is that on a point per game basis there are a slew of players that are really close to him and none of them were ever considered generational. They were better than the Sabres. in 2016, the Leafs finished lower than Buffalo (which is how they got Matthews) and in 2017 the Avalanche finished below Buffalo. Those are the only 2 times since Eichel was drafted Colorado, Toronto, Carolina, or even Edmonton finished below Buffalo.
