20) Bruce Springsteen - Thunder road (live)

I think the piano version on 75-85 live is the play here. It highlights his live performance, his ability to play a song differently in a live setting, his song writing, etc... I think this is represents him well.

27) U2 - Bad

I think this is represents them well.

28) Rush - Tom Sawyer

There were two eras of classic Rush - pre and post synthesizers. My fav pre is Temples of Syrinx (captures their mythic side). Post is Subdivisions. Tom Sawyer is never a bad choice.

30) AC/DC - Highway to Hell?

Bon Scott or Brian Johnson? Two eras. Bon Scott: The Jack (although HtH is fine). Brian Johnson: Back in Black

33) Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill

Slam dunk. One of the greatest songs about the pursuit of one's dreams you will find.

47) Styx - Sail Away or Fooling' Yourself

Flip a coin

49) Nirvana - Come as you are

Although if it were my list it would be a toss up between All Apologies and their Bowie cover of Man Who Sold the World

52) Goo Goo Dolls - Name

It is the song that launched the band

68) Journey: Lovin' Touchin' Feelin'

Pre or post Escape? Pre is the only way to go.

81) Metallica: Wherever I may roam

I think this is represents them well.

82) Black Sabbath: War Pigs

Assuming Ozzy on vocals (whom you should have separately as well). Paranoid and Iron Man were bigger. War Pigs was better.

86) Creed: My Own Prison/What's this Life For

They catch some flack, but Stapp wrote a few good songs before he went insane. Flip a coin.

Triumph: Fight the Good Fight

Gerry Rafferty: Baker's Street

No Doubt: Don't Speak

Foo Fighters: All My Life

America: Sister Golden Hair

Cheap Trick: I want you to want me (live)/Surrender Flip a coin

Judas Priest: Heading out to the highway

Iron Maiden: Run to the hills

Stone Temple Pilots: Creep

Sammy Hagar: Heavy Metal

Whitesnake: Slide it in

Pearl Jam: Jeremy (read the backstory about this and you will agree)

The Kinks - Lola is too obvious. Should go w/ either Sunny Afternoon or, better yet, Destroyer.

Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand

The Who - If looking for classic - Won't Get Fooled Again; if more latter day - Eminence Front

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (bonus points if you've got a tiny beater "Mirth Mobile."

The Rolling Stones - Satisfaction

Fleetwood Mac - Oh, well or if going for the Buckingham / Nicks phase Rhiannon

The Doors - Crystal Ship or LA Woman

Jimi Hendrix (& also Stevie Ray Vaughn) - Voodoo Chile

Bruce Springsteen - The River

Dire Straits - Telegraph Road (seeing Knopfler play that live is incredible)

Billy Joel - Stiletto, Angry Young Man, Half A Mile Away, You May Be Right, or Captain Jack depending on your mood.

Heart - Dreamboat Annie (Fantasy Child) followed by Crazy on You

Elton John - Funeral for a Friend (& it has to be followed by Love Lies Bleeding)

R.E.M. - South Central Rain (or looking more uptempo) It's the End of the World

U2 - The Unforgettable Fire

Rush - 2112, Fly by Night, By-tor & the Snowdog, Subdivisions, YYZ, I Think I'm Going Bald, Freewill, or going off the board Roll the Bones (why are we here, because ther's beer, tap the keg, tap the keg, ...)

Yes - Yours is no Disgrace

AC/DC - Back in Black, You Shook Me, or Dirty Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap)

Alice Cooper - No More Mr. Nice Guy

Sting - Fortress Around Your Heart

Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers

Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight

Cream - Strange Brew or Tales of Brave Ulysses

CCR - Heard it Through the Grapevine

John Fogerty - Buffalo Girls or I Saw It on T.V.

ELP - Karnevil 9 (all 3 movements), Fanfare for the Common Man

David Gilmour - There's No Way Out of Here

Roger Waters - The Pros & Cons of Hitchhiking, Every Stranger's Eyes, Home

Elvis Costello - Allison, (What's So Funny 'bout) Peace Love & Understanding, Veronica, Let 'im Dangle, Watching the Detectives

Bob Seger - Old Time Rock & Roll, Rambling Man/ Beautiful Loser

Jon & Vangelis - The Friends of Mr. Cairo

Electric Light Orchestra - Telephone Line

Pearl Jam - Even Flow

Boston - Amanda, Rock & Roll Band

Led Zeppelin - 10 Years Gone / What Is and What Should Never Be

I literally love you for picking these songs. I would go with them from Zeppelin in the spirit of the thread. SDS's mentions too. My personal favorite right now is In the Light, but that entire album is pure magic

My suggestions for Rush: Red Barchetta, Limelight if you're looking for something "poppy" like Tom Sawyer, YYZ, Xanadu

My suggestions for Van Halen: Ain't Talkin Bout Love, Panama

For Hendrix I implore that you give The Wind Cries Mary, Bold as Love, and my personal favorite, Little Wing, a chance.

Nirvana: Floyd the Barber and Polly

Electric Wizard: Funeralopolis (just kidding)

Queen: Killer Queen

A lot of bands like Yes, The Who, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, people are looking for stuff that isn't something signature but the signature songs from bands like these are just so good and worth putting onto a playlist like this

Many good suggestions out there right now, but this one lands the most with me, so far...

..so lets start near the top.

Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes

What a love song

Styx - Blue Collar Man

Nirvana - Lithium, or Where Did You Sleep Last Night(Lead Belly cover, unplugged)

Goo Goo Dolls - Long Way Down

It was a very fitting way to start that album

Steve Perry - Sherry

Fantastic pop song

Metallica - Unforgiven

If we're going "pop" Metallica, we're going Black album

Ozzy - Perry Mason

Creed - Torn

My Own Prison is the superior song, but Torn is plenty good

No Doubt - Just a Girl

Gwen's magnum opus

Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench

Anything but Everlong

Iron Maiden - The Trooper

Hair raising

Stone Temple Pilots - Sex Type Thing

Sponge - Plowed

Classic

Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta

Try not to smile and sing along

Toadies - Possum Kingdom

Butthole Surfers - Pepper

Hootie & The Blowfish - Only Wanna Be With You

Blind Melon - No Rain

Weezer - Buddy Holly

Meatloaf - 2 out of 3 Ain't Bad

Golden Earring - Twilight Zone, but Radar Love if you're driving

Tom Petty - Even the Losers

Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction

Van Halen - Hot for Teacher

Aerosmith - Janie's Got a Gun

Def Leppard - Rocket

Kiss - Love Gun

Violator is their best album

You are correct, but Personal Jesus is actual garbage. They can't all be winners.

Not a fan of Depeche Mode but Enjoy the Silence is their best tune IMHO.

You are also correct.

Their newest album is pretty good.

You are also also correct. My six-year old singing "Where's the Revolution..." is probably the happiest I've been in forever.

Not sure about live, but Thunder Road is the only correct Springsteen choice.

Little known song by him, but Going Down is an amazing Bruce song too. Like his version of Atlantic City a lot more too

That version kills the studio version.

Taro I’m glad you’ve included Meat Puppets. Very under rated band. Mrs. IT’s and my first wedding dance song was “Shine”.

I’d throw some Blind Melon and Janes Addiction into the mix I’ve seen so far.

Can't believe I didn't include Axel's brother's No Rain. Very goid call w/ Blind Melon.

Along that line: The Gin Blossoms Till I Hear It From You & Better Than Ezra's Good should be mentioned also.
