Superdraft - where would every NHL player get picked today?

So basically when it's my turn I pick who I think is best of the remaining available players? Essentially my top 10 list has nothing to do with this.

Yes, although I assume you will be picking a guy from you top 10 this round.

And it is your turn.

Hahaha true. So 2015 draft eligible players are in this draft too?

Yes.

1 PAtrick Kane

2 Connor McDavid

3 JohnTavares

JJ on the clock

Qwk on deck

Not the top three I would have predicted.

Corey Perry is a great player. But it's tough to build from the outside in, and Perry is 29 already.

I would take him as a first line winger on my team any day, though.

Well, I didn't think we were building a roster for the future. I thought we were going for the best right now. 29 isn't old in my opinion. Point taken on building from the outside in. I was picking based on my top 10. I had Ovi at #1 but that was solely based on talent (which I guess isn't fair because I neglected to put Crosby in my top 10 for reasons other than his talent). But I think Ovi is detrimental to any team he would be on. His laziness and lack of consistency outweighs his talent. Perry is consistent, stays healthy, maintains an incredible shooting percentage and rarely disappears in the playoffs. Anybody that can have a 42 goal/season pace over the last 5 years in this day and age of low scoring, should be in the top.

That's my reasoning anyways.

It's solid reasoning and I agree with it for the most part. My only concern with Perry is it's Getzlaf feeding him and him reaping the benefits of a great center.

Yup, the reasoning is fair enough. But for this excersise, it's about value, and sure, while Perry presents immediate talent, and although 29 isn't "old" for a hockey player, he's going to be passed his prime soon, so in my mind has less value going forward. As a GM starting a team from scatch right now, I wouldn't pick a 29 year old.

Unless I'm mistaken, it's not. Hence why I went back and took Kane instead of Seguin.

As I say that, Perry has to get helped off the ice.

Good point, I took that into consideration. It's tough to tell whether those two thrive because of each other, or if they really are that good regardless. Tough to tell since they've never really been with anybody else.

I'lll try this one more time because we all obviously aren't on the same page.

I read the question being posed by this thread as to who you would pick if you were starting a team from scratch, no strings attached.

I thought it would turn into a good discussion of "this guy is better than that guy because...."

I thought a draft would be a good way to see how valued players were.

In the end we'd come up with a list of the top 300 players in the league as ranked by Sabrespace.

There is no advantage to where you pick, there is no need to flip the order in the second round.

It's not a pool. There is no winner.

*****

I also like the idea of building a team, like SDS describes up thread, and like we do in the Sabrespace fantasy pools.

I'm not sure how you would turn it into a competition, but it would probably result in a very different list because posters would have to draft for need. I'd be happy to play or host that one when this one is done.

But this draft is not for need, it is for value.

This is the post I was working off of. So my understanding of it is: player value overall being taken into account.

Age is a factor, but we're not a GM starting a team from scratch right now. If I get this it's more of a snap-shot in time of the players; 29 isn't old for a NHL player. Though I do agree if I were building a team I would look at how old they are.

My picked was based off of who I thought was the best overall NHL player available.  John Tavares is a fantastic if you watch him play. Being buried on the NYI is one of the reasons I think he has a lower profile.  If he were a Ranger, he would considered one of the best and rightfully so IMPO.

That said, I don't think the interesting part of the draft will be the top 10 or even 20 but the later rounds

Crosby. He's starting to age and the concussion issues are a concern, but the skill set and track record are too good to ignore.

And the cliche is true: I never thought he'd still be available. I would have picked Toews ahead of him. maybe McDavid.

1. WildCard (Buffalo) - Patrick Kane

2. Randall Flagg (Arizona) - Connor McDavid

3. Liger (Edmonton) - John Tavares

4. JJ (Toronto) - Corey Perry

5. Qwksndmonster (Carolina) - Jonathan Toews

6. Dudacek (New Jersey) - Sidney Crosby

7.  Eleven (Philly) -

8. WildCard (Columbus) -

9. Thorny (San Jose) -

10. Derrico (Colorado) -

Eleven, you're up.
