Tank update:

We're currently in last place. Eight points behind Edmonton who has played one more game than us.

The team is on pace for 57 points which only two other teams currently have less than.

If we get a point per game for the rest of the season that would give us 62 points which only four other teams have less than.

Our goal differential is -65 which is -12 more than the next lowest. That's 134 below the highest in the league (St. Louis at +69).

Only 131 goals. That's 28 below the next lowest and 94 below league-leading Chicago.

13 regulation and overtime wins is lowest in the league. Florida is second lowest with 17.

If we finish on a point-per-game pace, which would leave us with 62 points, then the following teams would have to finish with these records to have a better slot in the lottery than us:

Edmonton Oilers: 3-10-2 (8 points or worse in 15 games)

Florida Panthers: 3-12-1 (7 points or worse in 16 games)

New York Islanders: 1-13-1 (3 points or worse in 15 games)

Calgary Flames: 1-14-1 (3 points or worse in 16 games)

That would be awesome. Then maybe they can grab Thatcher Demko too? Almost seems too good to be true.

They changed the rules for the Crosby pick.

They had to though, thanks to the lockout. The pick wound up going to the team who would have been the worst anyway, so I'm ok with those results.

And looking back, there's a few gems here and there, but that draft really sucked.

What site is the best site (or sites) for detailed scouting reports on these guys where I don't have to subscribe?

There are a couple:

http://thehockeywriters.com/

http://www.nhl.com/i...spectbrowse.htm

http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/

are three that are good starts. They have rankings but some have more info.

Also rotoworld has information as well.

Try this...

http://www.hockeysfu...uting_services/

If you want a write up on these guys look to the right side and click on the name. You will get a profile on each player.

Also International Scouting service: http://www.isshockey.com/

they have Leon ranked 6th.

This is why we shouldn't assume that because the league had been doing something recently that they will do it again that way next time. They fly by the seat of their pants it seems.

The Oil head to OT with the Wings tied at 1.

I'm watching and there was a clear cross check right in front of the net by the Red Wings. One of the refs had one arm up for the last few seconds of OT and then nothing came of it. Kind of confused by that.

Either way, good night for the tank. Edmonton gets at least one point, the Islanders lose in regulation and the Panthers win.

Oh my. Hall just got grabbed and turned around in front of the net and no call there either haha.

Now nine points behind Edmonton for last place.

The Flames win puts them out of reach which means we've all but locked up a top five pick.

Also: the Sabres can officially eliminated from the playoffs as early as Sunday. If they lose their next two games (NYI, MON) in regulation, Columbus gets a point against Minnesota tomorrow and the Flyers can get two points total out of the their two games against the Penguins this weekend then the playoffs hopes are all gone. Fun fun.

I, like many others, am still holding out hope for the playoffs. Thanks for this update.

Interesting write up on Rotoworld's NHL draft assessment has the Sabres using 3 number 1s this year picking #1 Sam Bennett, #5 Leon Draisaitl and #28 Conner Bleackley from McKeen’s Hockey Director of Amateur Scouting, David Burstyn

http://www.rotoworld...t-leads-the-way

1) Sabres - Sam Bennett

Bennett gives the Sabres a heart-and-soul player along the lines of a Rod Brind'Amour or a Jonathan Toews. He is pure character who skates extremely well and can make a difference in all three zones.

5) Sabres via Islanders (Isles have option to defer pick to 2015) - Leon Draisaitl ©

Isles will likely forgo pick especially considering the strong 2015 draft class. Sabres wisely select Draisaitl, a player who plays a similar game to Mikko Koivu and has the potential to play in a top six while manufacturing strong offensive numbers.

28) Sabres via Blues (Conditional*) - Conner Bleackley

Buffalo could move their third first-round pick - or continue to re-stock the cupboard up front. Red Deer captain at just 17, Bleackley is a scorer who has the ability to win pucks, drive the net and do the little things offensively.

Gotta think this might be a banner draft should it occur.

1) Reinhart

2) Bennett

3) Dal Colle

4) Draisaitl

5) Nylander

Any two please.

It'd be kinda cool to have Nylander and Possler play together on modo.

Reinhart and Draisaitl, please and thank you. If not, I actually prefer Ritchie over Dal Colle. Bennett would be an obvious call in either case. Nylander is interesting as is Kapanen. Both high skill guys.
