They waited forever last year to sign him, waiting for someone to pick him up. No takers.

He leads the A.H.L. in goals this year. Maybe someone will see value and get him in a trade with the sabres. Oh ya, Regiers the G.M. so what are the chances of seeing player movement via trade?

we will see at the deadline. i'll be the first one to say im not a fan of mancari and I never want to see him play a game in a Buffalo uniform again, but at the same time he's consistently scoring goals in the A, so I could definitely see a team being interested in him. A Connolly\Mancari\Butler package might reel in a few partners, maybe someone like Florida who could give Mancari/Butler the ice time to develop and just hope that Connolly can turn things around.

Mancari strikes again for Pirates

Published on: 23rd January, 2011 by Chris Roy

The DCU Center hasn’t been a friendly place this season for the Portland Pirates, but they found a way to get the win as Luke Adam scored in the shootout, giving the Pirates a 5-4 victory over the Worcester Sharks in front of 3,407 in attendance.

The Pirates, who built a 3-0 lead after two periods of play, had to battle back to tie the game in the closing seconds as Mark Mancari found the back of the net to record his second hat trick in consecutive games.

He's very soft. For a guy his size, it doesn't work out too often. In the AHL, he can get away with it since A.) he does have a real hard shot, B.) He's a grown ass man playing with many kids so he can still over power the younger players. In the NHL, it's a different animal.

Idk, he's been near the top of the AHL in scoring for close to 5 years running. By now, if someone thought he was good enough, he would be there already.

These.

He is not a good skater, even for a dude his size. Many players in the NHL have good hard shots.

The coaches have had a chance to see him in the NHL, hes now an older prospect, and apparently the Pirates coaches arent putting him on the top of the list to get moved up to the big club. He might be on his way out of this organization.

Mark is one of those guys like Jody Gage and more recently Jason Krog (led the AHL with 112 points in 2007-08), whose game is well suited for the AHL speed and skill level, but never translates to the NHL. As they get older, their experience in the AHL adds more to that edge, letting them lead the league in points or goals, but not getting them significant call-ups. It's not impossible that he could find himself playing a season on an NHL team at some point, but it's becoming less and less likely that it will happen.

Has he ever got top 6 minutes when up with the big club? I'm just thinking out loud but I wonder what he could do. He's probably only ever played 3rd 4th line duty in Lindys world. Its obvious that with portland he's given lots of ice.

Practice just as dangerous as the game for the Pirates

Published on: 25th January, 2011 by Chris Roy

The Pirates have been playing hard lately, rolling off nine wins in their last 11 games. You’d think they’d be a little more measured in practice?

Think again…

Pirates dig deep… Really deep for the win

Published on: 25th January, 2011 by Chris Roy

Portland, ME – These days it would be very hard to criticize the work ethic and dedication of forward Mark Mancari.

By the end of the night, it would be hard to criticize the work ethic and dedication of the entire roster of the Portland Pirates.

Down to 14 skaters by the end of the game, Mark Mancari scored the game winner for his 27th goal of the season and extended his point streak to 12 games as the Portland Pirates held on for a 2-1 win over the Norfolk Admirals before 3,285 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Tuesday night.

Mancari's hot streak can only be good. It does appear Ruff has given up on him. So now is definitely a good time to package him for a trade. And if we don't, and Ruff is not here next season, then maybe another coach might be able to utilize him differently on the Sabres.

Published on: 28th January, 2011 by Chris Roy

Jordan Caron scored the game-winner and added an assist for the Providence Bruins to earn their first win in regulation against the Portland Pirates with a 4-2 victory in front 7,477 at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island on Friday night.

I suggested he would get another shot either with Buffalo or with another club via trade but was quickly shot down by various posters. Probably the same ones that said Gerbe was a career A.H.L.er

Anyone could have had him in the last two offseasons if they really wanted him. All it would have taken was an offer sheet while he was a RFA. Any deal he would have signed wouldn't have required any compensation, so there was no risk in any team talking with him.

In a perfect world Mark could get a nice 30 game audition after the trade deadline if Darcy/whoever is in charge then unloads the dead weight that is killing this team.

Mancari can't be worse than Grier, neids or Hecht.

That being said, I really doubt it happens.
