mjd1001 Posted August 7 Report Posted August 7 Mcdonald's. Other than last year stopping to get one of their ice cream sundaes, I hadn't been in a McDonald's for years until a few days ago. I was driving back from work and stopped at the McDonald's in Medina, New York. First of all, the bathroom was bordering on disgusting. Next, I don't know what kind of tile floors they have, but the floor had just been mopped and it was like walking on ice. Even when I got to a dry part of the floor, Even the tiniest residual moisture on the bottom of my shoes made it where I was about ready to fall and slide again. I looked at the breakfast menu, they have combo meals that cost almost $10. Really? Finally, I'm not a big coffee drinker but the graphic they have showing their coffees looked interesting so I tried one. Some sort of iced coffee...but it was very bitter, and they put caramel syrup in it where the syrup was dripping down the inside of the cup and the outside of the cup where it was sticky when I grabbed it. Then it said at the bottom of the cup and when I had some through the straw I was getting weird chunks of caramel.. it never fully mixed with the coffee. If this is representative of what McDonald's are like these days, I can't see why they are remotely doing as well as a company as they actually are. Quote

McDonalds exists because standards are low, very low. My advice is to never eat that stuff. Quote

pi2000 Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 SDGE (San Diego Gas and Electric) is now charging a monthly base service fee. "This fall, your SDG&E® bill will show electric delivery charges in a new way. This is not an extra charge, rather it is a change in how your bill is structured. California Assembly Bill 205 requires investor-owned electric utilities across the state to change how residential customers are billed to help make bills more transparent, while making it more affordable to use electric technologies, such as cars and appliances. We’re updating how some existing costs appear on your bill. Starting soon, you’ll see a new line item called the Base Services Charge, which will be approximately $24 per month. By moving some costs out of delivery pricing, you may pay about 10% less per kWh for the energy you use (roughly 5 cents per kWh on electric delivery). As a solar customer on a Net Energy Metering (NEM) plan, you will continue to receive a monthly statement. You can choose to pay the Base Services Charge each month or wait until your annual true-up. Please note, the Base Services Charge is not eligible to be offset by applied generation credits." I own my panels. The first few years I received a check from SDGE as I'm pumping more back into the grid than I consume. Next was implementation of tiered pricing (off-peak, super off-peak, peak... kWh cost varies depending on the hour of the day, time of year, etc), which turned my yearly true-up refund into to a charge of $100-200. Now this. Criminal for what is supposed to be a "utility" to scheme against solar customers just to make a buck. 1 Quote

I first learned about when I looked at solar panels and the rep told me about it. That said, I don't know that it's criminal. If you don't want to pay it you can disconnect and be totally off the grid. Otherwise they are obligated to service your meter, etc. and that's not free. Quote
Porous Five Hole Posted August 15 Report Posted August 15 I have a bat in the house 🤬 I’m up at the family cottage and the place has 24 foot high ceilings. The mud and tape at the seam of the ceiling has come loose and this thing (we’ve named him Swoop) is currently wedged where the seam got loose. This thing was flying around the living room an hour ago. I guess I’m going to leave the screen doors open and hope he finds his way out before I wake up tomorrow 🦇 Quote

I'm pumping kW back into the grid which they sell to other customers.... that should easily offset any maintenance costs at my location. 1 Quote
SABRES 0311 Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago Ok I’ll tie this into the Benson thread. I don’t understand how anyone who complains about the last 14 years wants a 5’9” twenty year old in the top six. Quote

Wyldnwoody44 Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Patients that know everything... Or family that does.... Come into the room "I know what's happening and I'll tell you how you need to treat him" How about your husband is a very obese diabetic with heart failure, uncontrolled diabetes, and multiple stents who has a raging infection. Oh and last month his cultures showed resistance to the medicine you're pushing me to give. "well, I know what does and doesn't work for him" my guess is maybe there's a life insurance policy in there. Also he needs IV Tylenol every 3 hours or else he gets altered..... Ummmm, no, that will trash his liver but thanks for playing. Quote

Meanwhile they complain about how much they have to work to support said family, but here I am 40 and retired and I have the problem. Quote

For years I always got the "when are you gonna settle down" speech. I like randomly being able to fly to Asia on a whim or do whatever. I can't fully retire yet (jealous) but I have some debts to pay off and then I def will younger. I don't know many people our age without kids or a wife or ex(s) 1 Quote

Pimlach Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago 2 hours ago, Weave said: 4 yrs out from retirement and I am feeling ready now. *sigh* What do you base the four years on? Is it detailed financial data or just the age you think you should be at retirement. Have you done a detailed study of your spending to determine your wants and needs in the future? I retired “early” because of the corporate culture. I could not buy into all of the changes AND I was financially ready. It was a good move. I supplement my desire to be “busy and useful” by contracting my services - I work when I want to work. My close friend can retire right now at 59, but he is uncomfortable with it. His solution was to cut hours to part time and retain benefits. For many, Health care is the biggest concern. Until you get to Medicare it’s expensive to pay for a good plan. Quote

I’m not (most times) crazy 15K and they are done? Here is some Dad-like advice, you probably already know this stuff but maybe you get something from it. I once bought a set of Michelin's that lasted only 20k before I took them off due to bad performance and wear. I did all the right maintenance. The guy at the dealership said they could have been dry rotting by setting in their storage for awhile so he gave me half the money back towards another set. I hope you get some compensation back for the poor performance. Good tire maintenance: - check alignment and do a front end alignment if needed every time you put new tires on. - Check inflation of tires to proper levels periodically, especially important when seasons change as external temps effect the tire pressure. This helps gas mileage and reduces the chance of bad wear. - check tire balance and rotate your tires every 12,000 miles, or every other oil change, so they wear evenly. - Make sure your shocks/struts are good, they will slowly degrade so once you get 60K to 100K miles on them. Over 100K and they are probably not doing the job to full performance but they still could be good. Problem is you get used to them, making it harder to detect when they are marginal. Quote
