  1. What is Dec 29? 4 days after Christmas. Christmas is over. Back to your normal programming. Of course, the same reasoning applies before Dec 25 as well. #Grinchmode
  2. The ability to work from home, not living in one of the lake effect snow alleys, and a plowing contractor make Winter much more tolerable.
  3. Any Sabre living within Buffalo city limits wouldn’t be able to get there.
  4. Noone lost power, so their biggest concerns are snow removal. Surprisingly, Dad remembered to clear the furnace exhaust. Regarding generators and stuff, my plan B if the generator won’t fire is 2 propane buddy heaters and a freshly filled 20lb tank. A buddy heater is a pretty affordable insurance policy against a couple of days without power.
  5. For a less than once in a decade event…. The root cause is people on the road during a ban. Like Eleven mentions, the single most impactful change to storm planning and crisis management would have been to initiate the driving ban sooner, and aggressively enforce it prior to the flash freeze that preceded the snow event.
  6. I think the single largest issue that impacted response was all of the idiots that refused to stay off the roads while the storm was raging, and all the non essential employers that didn’t shut their doors and tell their employees to stay home Friday morning. Those two things happen and emergency response becomes a factor of 10 more simplified, and fewer in volume combined.
  7. Prediction for the new year…. No.
  8. We’re still under a travel ban. Looks like it’ll be Christmas for two this year.
  9. Must be done in haiku format or it doesn’t count.
  10. Its on now
  11. I don’t know ***** about him other than the office he holds. I’m not an Erie Co resident. But hearing how the county emergency response is being affected, and my memories of ‘77, it sounds like the overall impact isn’t that far apart. I’m not gonna dismiss that statement. The impact of this storm just a few miles from me is pretty historic. The rural communities affected by this storm are getting crushed.
  12. Mark Poloncarz (sp?) just called this storm more impactful than ‘77. Wow.
  13. Shades of 1985. What a doozy. Glad to be home and have power. Kids are stuck about an hour away from us, but they are with family so they are OK. Relaxing, cooking a bunch of meals, having an occasional cocktail. What else are you gonna do? At an earlier age we might’ve had a Storm Surprise. Thankfully thats not a risk anymore LOL
  14. 100” of snow did not fall. Most of that is old snow blown off Lake Erie
  15. Lame. That’s a GM’s job. It’s a fans job to react to the GMs successes and failures. To this date GT is a GM failure.
  16. Hockey talk was more funner before it became debates about the validity of hockey math.
  17. The lake froze early that year, and it was a relatively snowy year, so there was a bunch of old snow piled up on Lake Erie that ended up in Erie Co. That’s the balamce of the 100”. Drifts were in the range of 10-20’.
  18. But they’ve also drafted a couple of guys that will be ready in 5 years, stoopid. /s
  19. My lawn flashed over to ice about 20 minutes ago. here we go…..
  20. The other way around was about as common.
  21. And we don’t have a goalie until we have a goalie. I hate that KA has put all of our goalie eggs in the Levi basket. It makes us vulnerable.
