I guess one positive in all of this is that there's probably only a handful of GMs who have actually gone through an expansion draft already. And on top of that, the rules are drastically different from any of those previous ones. If he's the cap expert that some have played him up to be, he may actually have some good thoughts on how to maneuver through this. We're not a team that really has to worry about losing any specific player, so that more than likely frees them up to be a little more proactive in terms of "helping out" other teams.

Someone will clarify I'm sure, but do these europeans under 20 who sign ELCs but remain over there actually count against the limit? The rules mention specifically those returned to "juniors", so I'm not sure how that relates to junior aged players who are playing overseas.

I'm with you, at least when it comes to the scripted chants. So many people look at that and see passion. Many times, I just see robots or sheep. I'm not necessarily saying that's the case in Nashville, but I've definitely seen it many times, particularly in college arenas.

I'm no Gionta fan, but it seems a bit strong to say that he was passed over for years in Jersey. There wasn't exactly a leadership vacuum while he was there. Jamie Langenbrunner was there for most of Gionta's run with the Devils, right up until the end. Then they had Elias the whole time who also had the C at stages. Mix in overlapping time with Stevens, Niedermayer, Holik, Rafalski, and even Brodeur and It's definitely not something that was ever lacking on that team. The one thing that unfortunately I can't seem to find without digging way too deeply in google is if and how long he had an A with the Devils.

They absolutely need someone who makes an impact today if they move him. That wouldn't be a case of Botterill being had. The only way I move him for a non-immediate impact is if it gets down to the trade deadline.

It's not a pride thing but one that always stuck out from when I was young. My town split their little league up into three age group. In my first year in the middle age group, I didn't play too much because I had a coach who played people strictly by age. Anyway, we're in the last inning of the championship game, down 20-19 and I'm actually in the lineup. We had chipped away at the lead to get it to that point, the bases were loaded, two outs, and I was on deck. The kid in front of me struck out swinging on a pitch over his head. :wallbash: So I never got the chance to see what would have happened if I got to the plate with the game in my hands. Oh, and I'm pretty sure that was the same year as another 20-19 game with a much worse ending. That's why I still remember that score today. Please tell me you crane kicked them.

The answer to each of these is the same. It depends on the return from the deal. I hate the cliche that anyone can be traded, but there's definitely something to it. Of all of the guys mentioned so far around here, the only one I would actively shop is Kane. I'd much rather keep him around, but if you have the idea that he might not want to re-sign, you should definitely be talking to see what you can get. As for the others (Lehner/Reinhart), I'm not initiating the calls, but I'm certainly listening if someone comes calling.

Do you know what that goal differential was if you remove all of the power play goals that weren't factored into the plus minus? I'd imagine they come fairly close to balancing out, but I don't know how balanced their special teams were. Also, does that differential factor in the freebie goal credited for shoot out wins? I can never seem to find a straight answer as to whether or not that is included in the official NHL team GF/GA stats.
