Martin is going to get over drafted. I disagree about "most sense". Buffalo has drafted 4 rhd in early rounds the last few years. Strbak (2nd), McCarthy (3rd), Kleber (2nd), and we'll include Komarov (5th) too. Mrtka is the best of that group but in this draft specifically, there's going to be 2-3 rhd with size available at 39 and I don't think Mrtka is so far above them that he warrants 9th oa. Psenicka for example might be there at 39 and I have a sneaky suspicion might be far closer to mrtkas ability but simply lacks strength right now. That all said, it's just my opinion on it and as always I encourage others to read up, watch, and make their own conclusions.

He is left handed. The Sabres need a good veteran RHD and a reliable goalie.

I think Mrtka makes the most sense of who will be available for us. If he learns a little offense and a little toughness then I think he’ll be a solid selection.

Of course his height accounted for a significant portion of the difference. But he's not the only supersized player to be in the NHL, but he seems to have been the 1 "monster" that consistently elbowed guys in the head. And will always have a soft spot for "May Day, May Day, May Day" but still, he was a dirty player.

Now why wouldn’t Buffalo be all over this? Pair him with Dahlin. Or Hague and Whitecloud and take care of your top 4. IF Vegas wants Marner then go grab some players from them

I'll trade them Samuelsson and Rosen but the idea of using Owen Power and then adding more to get Miller is not something a serious GM would do. Miller is a 4/5 defender at best. He's not that interesting especially with the amount he'll command.

If the Rangers are in cap trouble they might take our number one for him. But he would have to be willing to sign here long term. I think that would mean one of the other D-man would have to go, though.

Where? I'm on a Bruins board and it's really not a thing. The general attitude there is very different for obvious reasons. Swayman took most of the heat/blame this year and half of them always hate management regardless of what happens. As an aside, I've seen a lot of posts lately saying "get Peterka" now that they hired Sturm as head coach. The other Sabres they like at various times have been Tuch and Thompson. Dahlin isn't mentioned but that's probably because they have McAvoy. Nobody else. And yes, Sabres are sometimes mentioned as a lesson in how NOT to do things.

I couldn't care less about winning trades and he shouldn't either. Just get what your team needs by whatever means you can. Overpay a bit for Malenstyn? Ya, I'll say. Equivalent players have moved through the waiver wire. The Savoie trade was a good one because it shifted maybe later to known commodity now. He needed to make 3 more similar ones. The Ottawa trade remains to be seen. Both teams were ready to move on from those main pieces for different reasons.

Don't you think Chara's height accounted for that difference between the two of them? They both hit to hurt. Peca wasn't big enough to end any careers but he KO'd Selanne pretty darn good before coming here. May is definitely in the running on the dirty side. I will also confess to him being a favorite player at the time. Much like Dudley earlier.
