I don’t think Adams wants to be GM of the Sabres anymore. If he quit, they’d go after his future salary, so he’ll just bide his time til he gets fired and keeps all the money. Shall we have a pool on when he gets fired? March or April. Whenever it's official that they've missed the playoffs. Then we will be limbo with Kekalainen likely acting GM to the end of the year at which point Lindy will resign as coach and be named Senior Advisor and Jarmo will become GM. Terry Pegula will remain as director of hockey operations though so nothing will change and Seth Appert will even possibly be named head coach. Unless they suck even worse than expected and then Appert will be named head coach this season and firings will be sooner. Quote

Can't blame any of them. But believe there is room for hope that they're finally wrong after nearly a decade and a half of being right. I was also disappointed with the lack of activity coming off of last season. I was hoping for a second-line forward add. Our listless GM hired by the spynx owner unsurprisingly kept with his low pace for change. The harsh reality is that this is a Pegula owned and operated team. You then get what he wants to give you. You have to be real enough to adjust your expectations to this dismal hockey world. Sometimes a degree of cynicism is appropriate coping with an uncomfortable reality. However, when the level of cynicism gets too overwhelming it is time to take a break instead of being overwhelmed by it. Masochism is self-inflicted. Quote

Don’t disagree with your take on Adams at all but you know as well as anyone on this board that after the top three to five goalies, no one can predict from year to year what’s going to happen. It’s the state of goaltending in the NHL. Since we brought up gambling, I’ll bet if you read the message board of every team in the league, twenty five have no idea how their goaltending is going to hold up, 2 Quote

However, and more to the point, is that while I understand the skepticism and negativity, not everything they do is wrong or outside the norm for the league. Every team in the league goes into camp with only one or two roster spots open, all but about three to five teams would like to upgrade their goaltending, etc. etc. I agree - it’s only been 6 seasons re: goaltending. What could Kevyn Adams have even done It’s all teams 10 hours ago, Taro T said: The level of dispair stems from no significant improvements to the roster from one that ended up with 79 points and literally no changes to the coaching staff and only a couple of additions to the front office, both of whom report to Adams and 1 of which is getting his 1st taste of a role in management. And it’s accurately reflective - not spin It’s not even negativity. People are quite very far down the rabbit hole of how unusual this team and its results have been We finished with 79 points after sitting near last most of year, trending down 2 years in a row, after failing to make it 5 straight on top of a full decade before that, and after last offseason the narrative was “heads will roll!” if we miss and we missed by a ton and every single management and coaching piece was brought back and we didn’t spend to the cap again and it’s like…”what, you dont like Danforth?” just save it, like seriously did they do enough? No. Did they do right by the fans? Hell no. Will we make the playoffs? Maybe. It’s not hard to make the playoffs Edited 9 hours ago by Thorny Quote

You put more effort into it than they do - why shouldn’t you call them out for what they actually are. 5 hours ago, gilbert11 said: They’re really going to camp with this roster, huh? I like hockey too much to cut the cord (which isn't really a cord since it's wi-fi and streaming :)) but until they show me something I do think this is the first year in quite a few where I will not watch every Sabres game and if the sucking continues that'll probably be few to no games by the end of the year. but it's not a strategy. We are fans of the team for crissake, not strategists for it. By all means, be as cynical as you’d like as is your every right to be and there is certainly good reason for it. But there’s no need to begrudge the hope of others, especially at the dawn of a new season. Don’t look now, but the Sabres are tied for first overall in the league standings. 1 Quote

bob_sauve28 Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Ruff has a quick presser here, talks about Tuck and UPL's injuries and other stuff https://www.nhl.com/sabres/news/buffalo-sabres-training-camp-scrimmage-josh-doan-jiri-kulich 1 Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Doan sounds like a coach here Quote Kulich opened the scoring in Saturday’s scrimmage with an impressive individual play. He generated a turnover in the neutral zone and entered 1-on-1 with a defenseman before rifling a shot passed Lyon’s low glove side. The 21-year-old generated significant offense for Team White and impressed Ruff, who said the former first-round pick can score goals that “surprise goaltenders.” Doan called Kulich’s shot “elite” and is working to instill confidence in Kulich, who scored 15 goals as a rookie last season. “His shot is elite, and it's one of those throughout the year, you're going to continue to see it grow,” Doan said. “Getting confidence in shooting the puck is something I'm trying to drive into him. When you get an opportunity, let it go, because there's not a lot of guys that can shoot the puck like you. He's someone that wants to grow and get better. You can see it off the ice. He's at the rink early, he's always ready to go, and he's someone that I've got pretty close to the last couple weeks and someone that hopefully we build chemistry together, try to get him to puck so he can put it in the back of the net.” Quote

K-9 Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago I liked Doan’s description of being a locker room presence. He described it as it’s better to be a fountain than a drain. I’d not heard that one before. I think he’s gonna become a fan favorite very quickly. 5 Quote

You be you and wear your jersey or wave your flag or whatever you want to do and I will be me, a cynical old grouch who is sick of this franchise being a mickey mouse useless organization. triumph_communes Posted 20 minutes ago Report Posted 20 minutes ago We can harp on the goaltending but I don’t see any goaltending keeping an ounce of confidence playing behind the defense and forwards we’ve had lately. Not saying UPL will jump to heroic heights, but him getting to average May just come from the defensive changes Quote
