I’m not convinced having Zito would’ve made any difference. Botts was fired because he didn’t want to follow EEE. Zito wouldn’t picked the same fate.

Sorry.  Who/what is EEE?

What also became clear during a Zoom conference call with the owners was their sudden focus on keeping costs in line, with Terry Pegula twice mentioning a need to have an effectively, efficiently and economically run franchise, while adding: “We’re going to get leaner.”

Sorry, not sure if Zito would’ve thrived under this. It’s an incredible “what if?” experiment though

The Panthers have over 40 people listed in their front office/hockey ops department.

The Sabres have approximately 24 including Jarmo and Staal.

The Panthers front office is considered one of the most progressive when it comes to analytics, Jeff Marek reported on the What Chaos Podcast that Bill Zito will not make a move without checking with Sunny Mehta, Director of Analytics for the Panthers, first.

Adams has an excellent Analytics Department lead by Sam Ventura, which he does not to listen to it as much as he should. .

Which is a shame because Ryan McLeod is the result of when he does.

I wonder if the jjp return had analytics involved

They give recommendations on all sorts of moves, the issue is they are not followed unlike the Panthers.
Analytics is the reason Florida gets players such as Forsling, Verhaeghe and Mikkola at bargain basement prices.
Jarmo is a fan of analytics, so hopefully this bodes well for the future

I love the sound of that.

Quick: who is their president of hockey ops?

And who is the president of the Sabres hockey ops?  Answer:  Terry Pegula

No matter what some random drunk spouts off to a pair of has been a with a podcast, the Sabres, like many other teams, do not have a president of hockey ops. There’s not need to turn this into another Sabre rant. I’m simply stating that it is an unnecessary position.

Considering her health status I just don't see that.

But it does make the addled decision making this team has been notorious for the past 3 or so years seem understandable.  It WAS a joke.  But, though that may be, considering the results, in a vacuum the theory is plausible.

Yep, it’s just a title. The right GM is all you need.

POHO is a title that comes with more money and more authority.  Not all GMs are POHO's.

And a lot of teams don’t even have one. It’s a glorified spin off of the GM position, nothing more. I’m not even sure it’s a position that really existed in the league prior to the last 25 years or so. In most cases, it feels like a PR position created to bring some former player on board and grab attention.

In Zito’s case, he did a really good job so they gave him an additional paper title to give him a raise.

If the owner would have swapped Jarmo into the GM job and made KA the POHO, I would have been ecstatic. With that organizational reshuffling I would have considered this offseason a resounding success. KA's has done a respectable job this offseason with the JJP trade and the acquisition of Lyons. And a Byram trade is looming, or maybe not. Either way it can still work out well. It's just that this stagnant franchise needs a major change in the hockey operation, and moving Jarmo to the GM position would have made sense.

I said it a few posts back.  The Sabres need the right GM.  It was implied, but not actually stated, that they don't currently have that right GM.  So yeah, we're on the same page.  They can do whatever they want with the fake POHO tag as long as a new GM is in place.

Actually, post-heart attack / stroke, maybe it's Kim.

Would explain a LOT.

I'd ask that we avoid making jokes that require the use of the disabled and legally incapacitated as a premise.
