He's been meh when called up but was just lights out in the AHL. I would guess they will be moving him at some point. 6'4" Latvian netminder. I saw him in these playoffs with Abbotsford and he was the main reason they won the Cup. I think he has an NHL future. I'd have preferred Vladar to Lyon but I'm okay with the signing. At least they didn't just roll with UPL Levi. Quote
Porous Five Hole Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago The second year perplexes me. If Adams had proven he is capable of moving on his mistakes, that’s one thing. But UPL & Muel are still here. So to me the second year kind of blocks Levi. Unless waiving Lyon is the plan. As much as I agree with Liger to waive UPL if Levi has a great camp, I have zero reason to believe Buffalo would do that. Quote

Maybe the Sabres are planning on having a $1.5MM EBUG when they become a thing. Always forward thinking they are. Quote

He's replacing him (realistically replacing UPL, but whatever). If he doesn't play well, he's a $1.5m buyout or cap dump. I think you're overthinking this. They will run Lyon and UPL. Lyon is here to put pressure on UPL. If Lyon plays well and UPL's play continues to be terrible, they'll move on from UPL and Lyon bridges to the hopefully-ready-to-be-a-starter Levi. I would suspect that's the actual thinking. 1 Quote

So no logical seat for Devon. Not that the Sabres couldn’t move on from 1.5MM, but we pinch pennies all over the place so the second year is weird. Also, I am a Levi truther and expect him to be an NHLer soon. Perhaps as soon as this upcoming training camp. Edited 18 hours ago by Porous Five Hole Quote
HumanSlinky39 Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago JAG goalie du jour. We need one every year. Not exciting, but if he can be Craig Anderson or Reimer, fine. Quote
apuszczalowski Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago Would have rather seen them make the move the Sharks made for Ned from the Pens. But Lyon isn't a horrible choice for a cheap backup Quote

The Sabres needed to upgrade their goaltending, and maybe UPL or Levi will play towards their ceiling and in the end they will have done so, but hope ain't a plan and replacing Reimer with Lyon ain't one either. 1 1 Quote
CallawaySabres Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago Maybe they can merge Levi and Lyon into one super goalie and call him LeVon. He can skate out to Elton John and the place will go wild....for at least 30 seconds of the night. 2 Quote

Let's face it, they weren't going out to get someone to replace UPL or Levi. The best they were going to do was get a new backup that might be able to fill in a bit more of UPL faulters and Levi stays in Rochester. I don't see Lyons as a downgrade from Reimer, but I also don't see him as much of an upgrade unless Reimer was a huge veteran mento in the lockeroom. 1 Quote

This team was likely to only get better goaltending if it comes from Levi or UPL. Lyon is here that if those first 2 guys falter, the drop to the play Lyons gives you isn't as far. Quote

There is no way a true goalie upgrade is coming under this administration. Conversation of 3 years ago I’ve all but stopped joining in on. If Adams has proven one functional aspect of his roster construction it’s that. It will take a different person steering the ship to make re-attacking the position a priority. Their plan was Levi and it’s darts from now on - there’s no pivot coming Edited 17 hours ago by Thorny 1 2 Quote

Won't keep this kid from railing against the policy. The policy is just SOOOOOOO misguided. (And personally still believe there's a good chance that Levi will become what they need. But that it will happen THIS year is merely hope. And, hope AIN'T a plan. They need to widen the margin for error and this move BARELY moves the needle in the right direction on that metric. It DOES move the needle the right way, but so trivially, it almost doesn't even count.) 1 Quote

What good is Levi hitting if you've wasted Tuch's cheap days, Dahlin and Tuch get tired of waiting on a goalie prospect, and Power never achieves full power? Levi will price himself out of Buffalo by the time he's good. Quote
