I suspect your take aligns a lot more closely to Kevyn Adams than you’d be comfortable with, given your recent posting history.

Where KA and I are aligned is that there is an expectation for internal improvement by the young group. Is it too much of an expectation? I would say that although leaning toward a conservative approach, it is a reasonable approach assuming some of the other liabilities are addressed.

Adam’s struggles to make one trade. Remember trade are hard to make😀

Jarmo will be the whisperer in KA's ear. I'm certainly not a promoter of KA. But even someone who is as cautious and unimaginative as he is, is aware that some notable actions have to be taken.

My thoughts:

  • The pre-draft press conference is probably a regularly-scheduled event that every team has, every year.
  • If Adams is up to something behind the scenes, I'd prefer he keep it quiet and doesn't tip his hand in the media in such a way that could cost him leverage in potential deals with other teams.  Someone above said "I don't care what he says, but only about what he does."  I agree with this.
  • I don't have a whole lot of confidence in Adams either way, but maybe the presence of Jarmo can help.
  • It's a huge disappointment if the entire coaching staff returns.  Again, no need to publicly make statements in the media to humiliate guys who may be bad coaches but good people.  Just say they're under contract publicly, while, hopefully, privately, he's searching for their replacements.

For me, it doesn't matter what KA does positively this offseason. My view on him won't change. His record is his record. I have more animus for the owner who oddly hired him, and intensified my scorn for the owner for retaining him after half a decade of piddling performance. Even if KA has a stellar offseason, it won't be forgotten that he was the person who contributed to driving this damaged vehicle into the the ditch. My judgment is based on the body of work and not a segment of one's work.

I expected nothing from this press conference and it was the usual nothing burger.

For me the good question and key answer is late in it.

22:54 is the question and 23:21 is the answer. KA don't care what anyone says or thinks. As ever, they know better. What more do you need to say?

Kevyn had a comment in there about changing from acquiring picks and prospects to getting nhl players as he believes they've built up the org depth now.

“If I’m being honest, I feel bad for the fans (for the internet misinformation and rumors).”

Maybe my frustration is making me too emotional.  But just that Kevyn? That’s the thing you feel bad about with Sabres fans in mind?

It's true, while Kevyn did his usual dance around answering questions Harrington was trying to find creative ways to dance around asking "why do you still have a job?"

I think we are scheduled to “learn to play defence” next year

Ruff needed an evaluation year

Byram to the Flames for Blake Coleman and a 2nd.

That second flipped to the Hawks for Conner Murphy.

UPL and Östlund to the Canucks for Demko and Forbert, Demko quickly extended.

Done, easy-peasy?

I think they get a lot more for Byram

"Open to [moving the pick] more than maybe I've been in past years," Adams said. "I think we had to really kind of try to build this organization up the appropriate way. And I do believe in building through the draft and developing players and making sure you have depth in your organization, which I think we've done a really solid job of. …"

"But I don't think you want to go into it saying, 'Hey, I'm just moving this pick, no matter what.' These are valuable picks, but you're open to everything. And trust me, the League knows that I'm absolutely open to moving [No. 9] if it's the right deal for us."

Hope so. If I was in charge I’d be working harder to lock him up here.

Can’t think of many players better poised to break out with the right change of scenery.

Can’t think of many scenarios where we will win the trade.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6448606/2025/06/24/sabres-peterka-adams-nhl-draft-2025/   (quotes from Fairburn not Adams)

1. Possible Petreka trade

Quote

The Peterka situation probably wasn’t part of that plan. The Sabres didn’t come into the summer trying to trade Peterka. They still don’t seem keen on the idea, but that hasn’t stopped teams from calling. Given the value Peterka would hold in a trade, they’d be foolish not to listen to offers. The possibility that Peterka is unhappy in Buffalo also puts stress on the situation. Adams has previously spoken about wanting players who want to be in Buffalo. But he has to hold his ground, to an extent, too.

2. Tuch's new deal

"He’s too important on and off the ice."  Fairburn thinks the deal needs to be done sooner than later.

3. Samuelsson

Adams said no truth to a buyout of Samuelsson.

Quote

Because of injuries and inconsistent play, Samuelsson hasn’t come close to living up to the $4.285 million cap hit he has for the next five seasons. If the Sabres wanted to move on from Samuelsson, they’d probably prefer to trade him, which could explain why Adams wanted to shoot down the buyout talk. Either way, the Sabres haven’t lost faith in the oft-injured defenseman who recently turned 25.

I'm sorry but that Adams hasn't lost faith in Samuelsson is a pretty good indication the guys has no clue.  He needs to go.

4. Coaching staff

With Assistants under contract Fairburn thinks they all are returning, but an addition is possible.  More of an indication that Adams is clueless.  Bringing the same assistants back on a team that has regressed two straight years is malpractice.

5. Jarmo

He will be based in Columbus.  Apparently Karmanos is based in Pittsburgh.  Who runs a team in Buffalo and the key staff live elsewhere?

6. Goalies

Adams is comfortable with UPL and Levi, but is open to adding to the position.  I guess this is the same scenario as last year.  UPL is the starter, Levi in Rochester unless he wins the backup job in camp over a end of career vet like Anderson or Reimer.  Who cares that UPL has had only one good pro season (AHL or NHL) or that Levi's hasn't shown in the last two seasons the ability to handle the NHL.

7. Forton and the draft

Forton sees a drop off in after the first 5-7 players.  Good thing were drafting 9th.  Forton likes D Mrtka and Aitcheson and we know how good he is at evaluating NHL players.  The Athletic mocks Mrtka to us at 9.

8. Prospect pool needs

Forton and Adams don't see many "needs."  Forton said physical and tough players will be in high demand after another Panthers Cup.  More genius from Forton.  We have been saying that they need to get tougher for a decade and that the prospect pool lacked those kind of players.  Why only address it now?  Oh yeah, the people running this team are idiots and incompetent.

I wonder if in some way Adams is trying to be like Bill Belichick with not giving straight answers to the media.  Belichick came off smart.  Adams is coming off like an idiot.
