He's too good for echl

Eh, maybe some other team will get into goalie purgatory and will be willing to bring him into their organization on a loan to get him 50% AHL starts and their farm team some W's.  Could be win-win for both organizations.

If that was the case I would rather they loaned or traded Georgiev to another team and bring Ratzleff to Rochester.

Well, yes, it would be good to not have Georgiev around.  But why would you rather have Ratzlaff sitting on the bench in Ra-cha-cha rather than playing in Springfield or elsewhere?  He's in Jacksonville so he can get the bulk of the starts.  That is NOT going to happen if he's paired with Levi.

And if Ratzlaff comes up, how does Leinonen get his necessary starts to keep developing -- swapping to Jacksonville? Or Ellis for that matter (who has now played in 1 game since 10/4 when he got 20 minutes of the final preseason game for STL and who never went to IR for his back tightness, so presumably he's fully healthy)?

Tonight: an early battle for first place in the North as the Amerks host Syracuse.

They should have left Leinonen in Finland for 1 more year.

He looked very good against the Monsters in Cleveland last week; better than anything I’ve seen from Georgiev. If they’re not gonna bring up Ratzlaff they should waive Georgiev and let Leinonen remain as backup to Levi. Then again, he isn’t gonna get enough starts with the Amerks to best serve his development, either.

Preview of tonight’s game:

https://www.amerks.com/news/detail/game-preview-amerks-fight-crunch-for-top-spot-in-north-division

Something that caught my eye from the preview, “After three straight seasons finishing in the bottom six of the league for penalty minutes, the Amerks enter this week leading the Eastern Conference with 165 through 10 games. A pair of defensemen are accountable for nearly a third of those PIM, with Nikita Novikov (26) and Vsevolod Komarov (25) dealing out punishment.”

They can’t send Ellis down, St. Louis would most assuredly reclaim him. The only real option is to trade UPL but I don’t think that’s likely.
The goal is, or should be to find the right guy, similar to when they had Miller, Biron and Noronen. Everyone always thought they’d be able to flip that into something substantial and they ended up with a couple of picks but at least they got the guy.

The Amerks are not short on toughness.  Between them he rooskies, Joshua, Dunne (when he goes back), Warren, and Kuntar, they have plenty of jam.

I had to go and look it up that Noronen pick turned into Enroth. So they got a couple extra years of “decent” goaltending out of that situation.

Marty turned in TJ Brennan, so yeah, less return there. If anyone gets traded now, I’d hope for a bit more of a hockey trade, but who knows if that’s out there.

Amerks (7-4-0-0) back at it against the baby Pens (8-2-1-0) at home tonight, who have the most points in the Eastern Conference.

I didn’t realize they were short a forward on Wednesday due to the Sabres call ups and were down to ten forwards mid-game when Savage went out with an injury.  Metsa ended up alternating shifts as a forward.

Matteo Costantini has been called up from Jacksonville (Drafted in 2020, Round 5).

No announcement on who gets the crease tonight.  Amerks play next in Hershey on Sunday.

Don't worry, Forton and Adams know they need more defensemen and will draft some more this year. Gotta add another 2-3rhd and a random lhd.

Game was on the CW here in Ra-cha-cha, so got to watch them play.

The goalie the Pens used in the 1st period might've been drunk.  He was absolutely terrible giving up 4 goals on 11 shots; 2 of them from a horrible angle, another from out above the circles, and the 4th one Kuntar simply walked right past him and rather than moving with him he did that leg kick that UPL's been using lately when he doesn't feel like moving his entire body and gave up probably the easiest goal Kuntar is going to score this year.

Levi seemed to be using a lot less movement than he had the past few this kid had seen him play.  He made some very big saves.  Couldn't do much on the 1st or 3rd he gave up.  The 1st was off a giveaway right in the slot when Novikov should've had a nice simple clear and the 3rd was on a 4 on 3 that bounced funnily to the side and a Pen hit Levi's glove and then leg while he was trying to get across to face the shooter.

The 2nd goal came on a screen that would've hoped he'd've been able to find a way to see.  And the 4th came on a slightly scrambly play in front of the net but Levi had gotten a bit deep in his crease and the puck got above him and under the crossbar.

None of the goals Levi gave up were "bad" goals, but again, thought he might've had a chance on the 2nd and 4th ones.

You don't like Radim Mrtka?

Isn't what I wrote or have ever said.

Bedkowski, stupid pick and I've laid out 2 other players that will have better careers. Luca Romano and Kristian Epperson

Kleber, mediocre with the other talent there which includes Ryder Ritchie, Tanner Howe, and Kamil Bednarik.

Who are the stand outs so far for the Amerks?

Well, two of them are currently up with the Sabres. That said, Helenius and Metsa look very good. I’m surprised at what they’re getting from Kuntar so far and Novikov is a steady force on the back end. Levi has been stellar, his last couple games notwithstanding. The Amerks as a whole are a grittier bunch.

Konsta Helenius is the obvious pick.  Zach Jones leads the league in assists, Jake Leschyshyn is quietly leading the team in goals mostly due to call ups.
