This game, known as the “Easter Epic,” was Game 7 against the New York Islanders, played on April 18–19, 1987. The game began on Saturday evening and ended at 1:58 a.m. on Easter Sunday after four overtime periods, making it the longest Game 7 in NHL history“ Was at that game. A Caps season ticket holder back then. How many OTs tonight?? I think it ends in the second OT. Logic makes me want to say that Helly lets them down, but I think the Jets get another nice bounce/tip in to win. Seems the only way they can beat Binnington. Edited 23 hours ago by K012010 Quote
KC Scouts Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago (edited) I'll say it ends in the 2nd OT.....if the OT doesn't end in the first 5-7 min, it seems the chances of that period going scoreless goes up dramatically, I wonder if there is some data on those odds Edited 23 hours ago by KC Scouts 1 Quote

Big Guava Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Cannot believe the Blues choked away a 3-1 lead with under 2 mins left in the 3rd period, including the thing goal with 3 seconds left to lose in double OT...brutal way to go out... Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago I turned it off to play assassin creed when it was 3-1, holy crap, I missed a good one Quote
Gatorman0519 Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago The Avalanche and Blues both choke away big leads late in Game 7 and the two teams I got wrong in my bracket. 😂 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago Monty don't do so well in game 7s 🙂 That was a good finish and this time the refs did put the whistles away which was good. I doubt Winnipeg gets past Dallas unless Hellybuck somehow becomes a playoff goalie which is more than unlikely. If Winnipeg were to win the cup though I want Hamilton or somebody to ask Kevyn how they did it when they don't have any palm trees. 1 1 Quote
thewookie1 Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago I think the only positive to come from our playoff drought is the lack of stress that comes from playoff hockey. Just imagine being a Blues or Avs fan tonight after playing knockout, drag out games, having a a 2 goal lead and choking it. Not to say I wouldn’t mind a bit of playoff stress but I’d be in tears if I were a Blues fan. They just had their Bills equivalent to the 13 seconds game. 1 1 Quote

Yeah, what are the odds of scoring two empty net goals and not allowing one? I wonder if that's ever happened in the playoffs? Before this season, a team erased a 2 goal deficit in Game 7 only three times in the NHL's 100+ year history. And this year it happens twice on consecutive nights. Crazy. 1 Quote

This question is already warranted. The Jets have made the playoffs 8 of the last 9 years. They won the President’s trophy this year. 5 years into the Adams era and we are as far from the playoffs, let alone the Stanley Cup, as we were when he took over. It’s a sad state when you go into the off-season knowing there is nothing Adams will do that will have the Sabres even projected to be a playoff team. 1 Quote

I see this happen way too much. 1 1 Quote

Last I head Winnipeg also has a cold climate and Canadians pay taxes. It must be magic? Looking at the rosters Winnipeg has the better team and they were without two excellent players. That said, St Louis played hard right to the end. Sure they played those last few minutes of regulation much to conservatively, but they seem to be a group that relishes hard work and effort. They have only 5 players left from the 2019 Cup winning team but they are re-tooling and their winning culture helps. Do not be surprised to see them add a few more key pieces, the POHO/GM (Armstrong) seems to find a way and the owner wants to win. Amazing what competent hockey people can do. Quote

True, they will be sad for awhile, but both teams and their fans will also talk about adding a few more pieces and getting back up in the standings. Edited 9 hours ago by Pimlach 1 Quote

Oh I agree, I think St Louis is being built much better than the Sabres. Their roster has much more balance. They can play physical and with speed. They aren't there yet but I suspect they will keep rising. Remember back at the beginning of the year when people here were debating if Sabres could or should trade for Parayko (as if he was available)? I imagine a number of those posts haven't aged well 🙂 Winnipeg is like surrounded by nothing. I would think it's high on many no trade lists. If you were American born would you be happy going there? Likely not. Maybe if you were from Minnesota it's not that different but not if you were from anything east coast or west (although there's less hockey there). They have to over pay and they have to entice. IF Buffalo was a winning team it would be much much more desirable than Winnipeg. That's the IF though isn't it? The vibe this year is they aren't even trying to get better. They are doing nothing. It just feels like they've given up. It's so sad. Quote

I don't think 2nd place would even be close, but I'm not sure Chevy has over paid for that many players over the years. Connor 50m over 7 years. Up for a huge raise...I think 10m or more. Morrissey signed for 8 x 6.25m. Three more seasons in that one. Vilardi bridged under 3.5m for 2 years. Perfetti bridged for 3.25m for 2 years. Scheif 7 x 8.5m and same as Helle. He has had a few doozies in the past like Pavelec. Kulikov for 10m over 3 years. Some people think Pionk's is too long at 6 years. Wheeler's was too long and a bit high but Chevy has said they thought they might be buying him out at the end of the deal and it was discussed before he was signed. All in all, I think he is pretty frugal considering he is in one of the, if not the, hardest market to be a GM, especially concerning free agents. Here's what I remember Jets' players saying why they like it here. Good place to raise a family, schools are mentioned. Most of the players say the organization treats them well and the wives/families are integrated quite well. (Well, maybe not Trouba's!) They usually make the playoffs. No MBL or NFL or NBA so they are the biggest ticket around. Players like Iafallo asked for an extension and said he likes the outdoors. Helle, Connor, Iafallo, Samberg and some others are big hunters/fishers. They don't mention it but they are paid in USD and that turns into 1.4 as much in CAD. If players like the nightlife, they probably wouldn't like living here for 7 months. 1 Quote

There's the CFL team and they get a crowd but it's not really competition. Buffalo's market is much bigger though and it's located better. Bottom line, Adams has no real excuse. 1 Quote
