What scheme is the Bills offense under Brady?

Coleman is also scheme limited as well and he can be covered, often blanketed,  by one CB with no deep help.

Coleman may win the contested jump ball situations but that is a dangerous way to scheme a play.

I’m in no way implying Coleman is better than Worthy, nor do I really care. I don’t spend a second regretting a player we never had, anyway. My only point is that the Bills and other teams had reason to take a pass on Worthy given that he is an undersized, strictly off ball receiver.

As to the Brady scheme, it is diametrically opposed to Reid’s given his reliance on heavy packages and the emphasis on the run game, as borne out by the fact that we run the ball more than any other team. It is an absolute requirement that his receivers be good blockers as a result. I’m sure Brady would love nothing more than a speed burner at the X who is big and can block. Who wouldn’t?

Would the Bills have been better with Worthy is what I cared about on draft day.  I do think they would be but that ship sailed.

I want more speed on that offense.  They passed on rare speed for a more physical possession WR.   You keep calling him "off the ball", who cares were he lines up.  Reid uses his players in the way that maximizes them and helps the team, which make him a great coach.

Coleman has had serious trouble getting open.  Right now it sure seems like when they have to pass Allen has trouble finding a receiver.

Worthy would have been better under Daboll, who would have made him his gadget guy, like he did with McKensie. And much like Reid does currently.

We may not care where he lines up, but OCs certainly do, as does Reid. For instance, and once again citing his off ball reliance, you seldom see him lined up at the X because he’s really not good at beating press man on the ball. He is too easily disrupted with a simple one armed chuck which is enough to throw off the timing on a play. He’s better in the slot and out of bunch formations, which Reid also recognizes. And he’s a lot more effective since Rice came back, too. We have enough slot guys as it is. Sure, it would be great to have his speed, but that in and of itself doesn’t make him a scheme fit for every offense.

I agree that our receivers aren’t great at creating separation, but Allen has also missed guys when open, either with poor passes or simply not seeing them. It was glaring during the Atlanta game which I had the pleasure of seeing from on high. And I wasn’t surprised when Kubiak said as much in his Buffalo News critique afterward. It was also interesting to hear Allen speak of not trusting his feet after the Panther game, which told me his timing patterns were off.

It’s easy to blame it all on the receivers and think that one small, fast guy would make it all better but I don’t think it’s that simple.

He's missed fewer games than Coleman, scores touchdowns, and is the X receiver the Bills desperately need.

Career touchdowns:

Worthy: 7 in 23GP

Coleman: 6 in 20GP

🤷‍♂️

Running out of Worthy>Coleman

Rasheed Rice #1

Coleman doesn't have that on this team either.

I'm giving stick taps to all the posters who brought the scheme-perspective to the Worthy/Coleman discussion.

I've seen it posted to Twitter several times over the past couple years: "If there was one Bills drought player whom you could bring back in their prime to help this team, who would it be?" The answer seems like it has to be Eric Moulds.

I'd love to see Cook get 20 touches/targets and a score on Sunday. I think he's the key to beating the Chiefs.

Going for it on 4th and 2 at midfield in the first quarter was a terrible decision by the Bills. Way too early in the game to take that kind of risk — flip the field, trust your defense, and play smart football.

Disagree. Conservative play always loses to the Chiefs. It was just a bad play call

Someone needs to break out their old Jochen Hecht jersey for a bills game.

The D keeps giving the offense the chance to step on their throats. It’s time to follow up.

The Bills are well run under McDermott and Beane. However, not drafting Worthy and dropping down to take Coleman was a glaring miscalculation.

Hecht may be done for the year. Achilles.

So Mahomes bouncing a pass off of his own lineman’s helmet… is that not a penalty anymore?

What penalty do you think it should be?

Yep.  One of two blunders that McDermott made (in my opinion).  The other was the overly conservative play on the last set of downs.  If they'd made a first down they would have had to attempt the field goal and KC never gets a last crack at tying it.  Fortunately the defensive secondary held firm at the end and the Bills got the win.

Ineligible receiver. Can't touch it first.

I asked my friends who has reffed amateur sports.  He said there's some discretion there.  The ball hitting a player isn't automatically an illegal touch and since the lineman had his back to Mahommes it wasn't considered an illegal touch.

Illegal touch.  A lineman is not allowed to catch the ball.
