Thanks for clarifying. It's UFA's that would have to be signed to 8 year max by the team holding his rights, then it's a sign and trade. If a team acquires a player’s UFA rights they are eligible to sign them to an 8 year deal. Even if the original team had to sign the deal (they don’t) there’s zero recapture risk because they did not benefit from the contract.
