Felt it deserved its own thread.

I don't see this as a bad move by any means.

Smith spent the last 4 seasons coaching Carolina's defense. He's a 3 time Stanley Cup winner

Can we get the relevant stuff in the Assistant coach thread moved here, please?

Carolina had really good shot suppression the last few years if I'm reading Twitter right.

Yes. I'm sure a lot of people are like me and peruse the thread subject lines almost like scanning a newspaper for headlines. I hate when big news is buried in some generic thread.

On the surface I like this move. Experienced NHL assistant with a winning background. He's been around. What does this mean for Chris Hajt?

Is that coaching or players?

Well according to the Sabres Twitter they averaged the 2nd fewest shots per game over his 4 years there.

As Karin Housley  was Chris Hajt’s Baby Sitter  back in the day, I doubt he is fired, but for all intents and purposes Steve Smith now runs the defense.

Rasmus Dahlin is many things, a prima dona is not one

They have really good players back there, though none of them were highly regarded prospects necessarily, so maybe there's some coaching-up aspect to it?

Refer to Point 1.

I thought it would be pretty obvious.

Hanifin is a Calgary Flame, and also not "really good" yet 😛

Is this the same Steve Smith, defenseman from the Gretzky era Oilers?

Hmmm but he was under Smith’s tutelage at Carolina.

Hanifin played in Carolina last year.

I thought so.  Apparently not a very good one.

And now the original post seems to have gotten lost in the other thread or something?

Karin Housley is the Yoko Ono of the Sabres.    I swear to God, she's going to be the downfall of this team... if she hasn't been already.

I can't think about that. I first need to digest that her name is pronounced CAR-inn. As in, park the car in the garage.
